Title: “I Became The Villain The Hero Is Obsessed With”
Electric attacks, or the ability to spew ice… They continued their horrendous experiments under the direction of Han Eun Group’s leadership even after their awakening. The children supported and consoled each other through such despair, withstanding together as a group of four. However, during that time, one of them dies. The shock felt by the remaining three, including Seo Eun, was immense as they had all been each other’s emotional pillars. Ultimately, one child’s powers explode due to the overwhelming stress, leading to the death of everyone in the laboratory. Of course, not everyone died. Seo Eun survived. Having outlived the others, she managed to evade the eyes of the Han Eun Group and has been living underground ever since. Until I found her, all alone.
In the original story, without me, she continued to track down the Han Eun Group on her own, seeking to punish the leaders who had gone into hiding after the terrible disaster. In the end, she manages to locate all of them and exacts her revenge. But after revenge comes only emptiness. Shaking from the intense feeling of nothingness, she snaps and becomes a villain, blaming the incompetent government and heroes for her and her siblings’ plight and commits acts of terror.
Of course, I won’t stand by and let Seo Eun become that kind of villain now. Wait, if I think about it, she’s already a villain because she’s an accomplice to me, isn’t she? Uh… Correction. I won’t let Seo Eun become such a ‘crazy’ villain. Being moderately villainous is actually good for one’s health. In a world that followed my original one, it’s better to be a villain than a hero in Korea.
Initially, I didn’t really care what happened to Han Seo Eun and only approached her to use her for her technical skills but, having spent time with her, I’ve grown fond of the kid. There’s no way I’m going to let her die a meaningless death. With that thought, I found myself entering the main sector.
Upon entering, I’m greeted by a multitude of monitors displaying various things. Some monitors show CCTV feeds, while others show different types of data. This place could make your head spin—an underground headquarters’ main sector. Hmm, wouldn’t giving this space a cool name make it even more impressive? The Surveillance Center?
Seo Eun sits at a desk busily working on something, with Subin-ssi working fervently beside her. “Seo Eun, what are you doing?” I ask as I approach. She finally turns to look at me. “Ah, Oppa, come look at this.” “Oh, what is it?” I ask, leaning in closer to see what she’s showing me. “The 13th International Ice Cream Festival?” “Yes! It’s coming to Korea for the first time. I’ve wanted to go so much! Let’s go next time. Subin-unni too.” “Um… okay,” I agree, seeing Subin-ssi smiling awkwardly next to us.
“Yes, so, Seo Eun, you wanted to go to the ice cream festival.” It’s clear to see Seo Eun brightening up just thinking about it. It feels like it was just yesterday that she was cautiously guarding herself like a wounded baby hedgehog when we first met, and now she’s excited to go to an ice cream festival. For the life of me, I have no idea why such events exist.
It’s good. Pure and happy… but wasn’t she working on something? I proudly thought she was planning something as she was looking intensely at the monitors. …Turns out she was planning to go to the ice cream festival. I never thought I’d go to an ice cream festival at this age…
“Anyway, that aside. So what’s our next goal? Don’t you have any plans?” I ask. “Our next mission?” Upon hearing my question, Seo Eun places a finger on her lip and ponders. “Ah! Right, what was it again? The Good Samaritan thing?” “Yeah. But that’s a large-scale terror attack, so it’s not great to execute it right after the last one. It causes fatigue to the citizens. We should wait till that dark night… I mean, that boat terror incident is forgotten, then bang! Hit them with it.” “So then, what was it we decided to do? Take down villains?” “That’s right.”
