I’ve gotten used to being Alone: Chapter 3

Deciding not to expect anything from the beginning made it really easy.

If you don’t worry about the common sense that you have to invite your fiancé to a tea party or go out with them on your days off, you can spend your time doing what you want. Nicole had completely gotten used to being alone.

When you get used to doing things alone on your days off, you don’t mind spending time alone at school either.

It was strange, but when Nicole started behaving confidently and alone, the group that used to sneer at her for being ignored by her fiancé all fell silent. The young ladies who used to gossip about Nicole behind her back also disappeared, and Nicole’s surroundings became quiet.

Nicole was pleased that the annoyance had disappeared for some reason.

And so, the days passed, and the annual Flower Festival was approaching.

The Flower Festival is a day when women receive flowers from their fiancés or husbands. Therefore, the young ladies around were all looking forward to what kind of flowers they would receive.

Nicole remembered what happened last year.

Since she hadn’t received any invitations until the day before, she went to see her fiancé on the Flower Festival day and was handed a bouquet roughly. And, at that time, Chaos told her that the bouquet was the leftover flowers offered to Princess Caroline, adding the punchline.

As she recalled the unpleasant memories of last year, she was spoken to by a classmate.

"Will Nicole-sama receive flowers from Chaos-sama?"

Nicole shook her head.

"I’ve decided not to accept leftovers."

When she told the story of last year as a pathetic joke, her classmates were angrier than she had expected.

"What a thing to do."

"It’s too cruel."

They also knew that Chaos admired Caroline and that Nicole was being treated coldly, but the reality they heard from Nicole was so cruel that they couldn’t close their mouths.

"Well, if you don’t go to see him, you don’t get involved."

She won’t go to see him this year. She won’t expect to receive flowers either. Nicole had decided so.

Last year, when she was handed the flowers, Nicole felt relieved that he had at least prepared the flowers for her. Chaos said this to the relieved Nicole.

"I gave the same flowers to Caroline-sama, and they suited her very well. They’ll suit you too."

Looking back on it now, it feels like my heart completely broke in that moment.

Since then, no matter how rudely I was treated or how much priority was given to the princess, it didn’t matter anymore.

Surely, the remaining feelings for my fiancé have disappeared, even if only a little.

But thanks to that, I’m very comfortable now, so Nicole was satisfied to continue with this daily life.
