Hidden corner Chapter :- 11

Chapter 11: People 1 (Thanks to the alliance leader whose name is gone)

Sigh.

Sigh. Sigh. The vision blurs and shakes.

It seems like something viscous is flowing out of my eyes.

Li Chengyi stretches out his hand and wipes the viscous liquid on one side of his cheek with the back of his hand.

Red.

A thick smear of bright red immediately appears on the back of his hand.

‘I’m bleeding.’

He bends over, feeling a scorching pain in his chest, signifying a serious wound.

He doesn’t know where the injury is located on his body.

But. He survived.

He’s alive.

Li Chengyi straightens up, panting heavily, gazing at the huge face that has completely disappeared in front of him.

After that face was torn apart, it vanished without a trace, as if it had never appeared in the first place.

He looks down, trying to find remnants on the ground, but bizarrely, not only is there no residue, but even the black smoke previously emitted by that face has dissipated.

If not for the fallen ceiling dust from the vibration of sound, he would have doubted if everything he had just encountered was an illusion.

‘Now, it should be safe.’

‘No, I haven’t left this place yet!’ Closing his eyes, he eases the sting in his eyes and rests in place for a moment.

However, only dozens of seconds into his rest, something feels off.

The floral scale armor he just put on is slowly becoming lighter.

‘What’s happening!?’ He quickly opens his eyes and raises his hand, looking at the arm guard.

As expected, the scale armor of the Wisteria flowers is gradually fading, turning transparent.

It’s then that he notices the scale armor has been densely filled with tiny cracks.

Clearly, the armor wasn’t undamaged in the confrontation with the huge face.

It’s only now showing signs of damage.

Crash.

Finally, seconds later, the entire floral scale armor disintegrates, shatters, turning into countless Wisteria flower petals, fading away.

Li Chengyi plops to the ground. While wearing the scale armor, he felt energetic, as if everything was effortless.

Now that the armor is gone, all exhaustion in his body seems to surge out at once.

A feeling of vulnerability without protection floods over him.

In such an environment, having just faced danger and suddenly losing the protection of the scale armor, the little relaxation he had tightened up again.

‘Is it temporarily augmented?’

He doesn’t panic but instead analyses calmly.

Now that the immediate danger is over, the need for the scale armor isn’t as pressing.

The critical part is the Wisteria flower emblem on the back of his hand, which conveys the message: the scale armor is damaged and requires absorption of new Wisteria flowers for repair.

After resting on the ground for a while and feeling slightly better, he stands up and starts to collect the scattered bags on the ground.

Some of the compressed biscuits in the bag have rolled away everywhere.

He bends down to pick them up, all the while keeping a wary eye on his surroundings.

Especially the maintenance door where that face emerged, it’s his main focal point.

Soon, he packs up everything and stuffs it back into the bag.

He sighs with relief, feels the dried blood on his cheek harden, and carefully peels it off.

Holding his belongings, he looks around and quickly finds a spot by the wall to sit down.

Leaning against the wall, his gaze sweeps across the front and both sides.

The eruption just now, not only physically but emotionally as well. Plus, the sprint when he first entered has drained a lot of his strength.

Now, Li Chengyi feels utterly exhausted, waves of sleepiness surging over him.

But he dares not sleep. In such an unfamiliar place, he doesn’t know what might happen if he falls asleep. If another face emerges while he is asleep and gets him, that would truly be unjust.

Under the cold white light, at the grey wall root, he squats on the black ground, wearing the hood of his tracksuit on his head to keep his body temperature.

A chilly breeze flows around him, cold yet quiet.

He takes out a nut chocolate bar from his pocket, tears open the wrapper, and stuffs it into his mouth.

The black plastic wrapper is printed with a mess of letters and random logos. He bites into it, brows slightly furrowing.

The taste is terrible, too sweet, sickeningly sweet, with barely any nuts.

After eating a piece, he stops and opens a bottle of purified water to drink along.

The faint smell of concrete, along with the airflow, constantly sneaks into his nose, making it itch.

Now calmed, Li Chengyi finally has the leisure to recall everything that just happened.

‘Although I’m not sure how powerful that face was. But as long as the floral scale armor can save my life, that’s enough! Unfortunately, the scale armor is now shattered and can only be repaired by finding Wisteria flowers after leaving here.’

He raises his hand, carefully observing the ring on the back of his hand.

Although the scale armor is shattered, he can still feel that he might be able to use the accompanying floral language ability.

His right hand, with just a thought, quickly covers with an invisible, unseen film.

According to the description given by the floral language, as long as it touches any living being, it will induce a temporary negative state of being intoxicated by a designated thing.

But since there’s no augmentation from the scale armor, the floral language ability can only work to a small extent.

‘Drunken Hand.’

‘If I could direct that face’s attention to something else temporarily, then even without the scale armor, encountering another face, as long as I move fast enough, I could ensure safety.

However, this floral language ability can only be used with close contact, which is extremely risky. And whether it’ll work on that face, I’ll have to try if there’s a chance later.’

He actually hopes there will never be a chance for a trial.

Because a close trial is akin to risking life.

Sitting in place and resting for a while after replenishing his diet, Li Chengyi’s physical strength has recovered quite a bit. He also wiped the sweat from his head with a prepared dry towel to avoid getting sick.

‘Next, I should look for the exit. I can’t stay here forever, staying put will never get me out.’

He wipes his hair, combing all strands backward to avoid covering his vision.

Picking up the bag, he looks around.

To his left is where he came in, also the location of the recent fight with that face.

However, what startles him is that the footprints and traces of the sonic wave vibration on the ground before have now silently disappeared, without a trace.

To the left of the empty space where the face disappeared, there’s only about ten meters of space, ending with a white wall – a dead end.

Li Chengyi shifts his gaze to the right, looking far into the garage that seems endless.

‘It seems there’s only one choice, only one way to go.’

He moves his ankles, picks up his stuff, and strides towards the right.

While walking, a sharp fruit knife is already quietly held in his right hand.

The sound of his footsteps echoes continuously in the empty garage.

Li Chengyi crosses one parking space after another marked with white lines, the solid feel under his feet, and a bit of confidence from just having dealt with a face, somewhat alleviates the panic in his heart.

Of course, the most crucial is the floral language ability he can still use: Drunken Hand.

Used correctly, this ability could play a significant role in saving his life.

Following the garage all the way forward, he remains alert, glaring at the maintenance doors on both sides as he passes.

One after another door is passed until finally, after the fifth door, Li Chengyi sees a corner ahead.

The corner leads up a right-angled slope to a higher layer, seemingly a way for vehicles to enter and exit.

A large white arrow is painted in the center of the black floor.

The arrow points towards the position where Li Chengyi is standing.

On both sides at the root of the wall, yellow and black alternating bright warning strips are painted, coarse and conspicuous.

Li Chengyi stands at the center of the road, looking ahead.

‘Should I go up? Since the underground garage is located below, there must be an above ground. What is this place like?’

Flickering with thoughts, mixed with curiosity and extreme nervousness, he grips the knife handle tightly, takes a deep breath, and steps forward.

On the ground ahead of the corner, the reflection of the white light from the layer above casts a shadow.

Light and shadow also exist.

When the light from the dark lamp and the bright lamp intertwines, such light and shadow appearance occur.

It’s a natural phenomenon caused by different light brightness.

Treading lightly, Li Chengyi slowly approaches the corner, step by step, gets close, and then turns.

Soon, he squints his eyes and enters the upper layer of the underground garage.

Nothing changes.

Standing at the entrance of the curve, he looks ahead, just as when he first came.

This is still a garage.

Two types of cold-toned lamps seem like two long marking lines, dividing the garage space in half, extending all the way to the end of the line of sight.

The scene in front is exactly the same as the lower layer.

The position of the lamps, the stone pillars, the small maintenance doors, their size, all exactly alike.

Li Chengyi’s heart starts to feel ominous.

He steps forward along the ground, this time speeding up his pace.

Soon, he once again reaches a corner, another slope leading upward.

In the center of the black ground, a white arrow exactly like before is clearly visible.

The sides are still marked with the alternating yellow and black warning layers, to prevent incoming and outgoing cars from missing the wall’s position and distance.

Li Chengyi doesn’t stop, continues up the slope.

Crossing the corner, he once again sees the same scene as before.

Another long corridor of the garage, the endpoint leading up an inclined ramp.

‘This place!’ He starts to run, and this time, it only takes him five minutes to reach the curve, then upwards, rushing out of the curve.

The third time!

Again, the identical garage scene unfolds before him!

Li Chengyi pants heavily, holding the bag in place, no longer moving.

Standing at the entrance of the curve, his face turns pale, feeling slightly exhausted.

He takes out a bottle of pure water, unscrews the cap, and takes a sip. The cool water soothes his somewhat sore throat, helping him calm down slightly.

‘It seems Dead End is not so easy to escape. It’s not just the danger of that monstrous face, finding the exit is also difficult.’

Convinced that there’s no way out, Li Chengyi finds a corner, sits cross-legged, and puts the big bag aside.

The corner shelters from the wind, reducing the loss of body temperature.

Moreover, he chose this spot precisely because it faces a small maintenance door in front of him, allowing him to closely monitor this dangerous position.

After resting for a while, he starts to feel his bladder swell, urging him to urinate.

He looks around, targets a pillar, and walks over.

Every now and then in the garage, there are two gray-white cylindrical stone pillars standing, seemingly serving as load-bearing purposes.

Reaching the backside of a pillar, where the light doesn’t shine, Li Chengyi pulls down his zipper and begins to urinate.

Just when he’s comfortably releasing, a faint sound comes from the small maintenance door at the side.

Click.

Even when urinating, Li Chengyi always keeps an eye on the nearest small door.

Hearing the noise, his body jolts, he hastily zips up, and without a second thought, dashes forward.
