I Became a S*ave to the Man I Abandoned: Chapter 27

Episode 14

“Why?”
One of the mercenaries asked, with a twinkle in his eye.
“Aren’t we here to recruit new members anyway?”
“Well, that’s true. But, you don’t mean…”
“That’s right.”
Another mercenary chuckled. His name was Dotta, a member of the twenty-fourth mercenaries who had just hit his fourth year.
“He had some spirit in his eyes.”
“I agree with that. Should we ask the captain where he found this bastard?”
“Just say he cleverly approached us. The captain likes that kind of stuff.”
“Well, he does like those tough guys.”
The mercenaries locked eyes and contemplated, then glanced down at the fallen Khalid.
“What should we do, not lift him up?”
“What? Should I lift him up?”
“Then should I do it?”
Dotta, who suggested it first, quickly went to Khalid’s side as if to say “lift him up” and grabbed his armpits. Another mercenary, Blade, who had been with them for seven years, sighed and eventually offered his back. Khalid was still unconscious, lying limp.
“He looks starved.”
“It’s impressive that he tried to attack us in that state.”
“Yeah, so shouldn’t we make use of him as a mercenary?”
“That’s what I think.”
With that, the two mercenaries lifted Khalid and headed towards the mercenary camp. And when Khalid opened his eyes, he found himself in a corner room of the inn where the mercenaries were staying.

It was early dawn. Khalid woke up earlier than anyone else in the mansion. It had been a habit since he was young. Yeah, this damn habit he acquired as Nox’s servant never went away.

As soon as Khalid opened his eyes in bed, his mood turned foul and he scrunched up his nose. On top of that, he had a not-so-pleasant dream. The days when he was discarded by Nox, lost his recommendation letter, and had nothing left while living in despair. If the mercenary unit hadn’t picked him up back then, he might have starved to death.

Khalid wiped his head and looked at his bed. Nox, who fainted yesterday, was lying on the bed. His always neatly arranged hair was messy, and his red eyes were still filled with tears. Khalid coldly looked down at his face and then uncovered the blanket he was covering.

“…Why.”

Nox’s back, turned away from me, was clearly visible. And his back was covered in whip marks. There were old scars that didn’t suit the body of a nobleman like Duke Reynor.

“Why are these marks on your body?”

Khalid wondered. If he had thrown away someone he loved so much, shouldn’t he have lived happily, more than anyone else? He couldn’t understand why there were these wounds that didn’t suit a noble’s son.

“No, it’s not.”

Khalid murmured quietly. If he had been unhappy when Khalid was gone, it was good news to him more than anything else. He didn’t want to know what had happened. No, he thought it was better not to know.

“Don’t pity me.”

Khalid said to himself. But he couldn’t help but be bothered by those scars. The fact that there were scars inflicted by someone else on his own body…. Khalid got up and headed to the bathroom. There is no master who welcomes the morning with a slave.

Khalid called the servants and prepared for his bath, then glanced back at Nox, who still couldn’t come to his senses, and headed into the bathroom.

After some time passed, Khalid finished his bath and came out, changed into his clothes with the help of the servants. Then he went to the hallway and gave orders to the knights following behind him.

“We’re going to the palace.”

“Understood.”

Now accustomed to his position, Khalid gave his command naturally and immediately got on the carriage to the first floor. He sat in the carriage and looked out the window for a moment. Nox, who was still unconscious in his room, came to mind. He unintentionally frowned.

The existence that betrayed him, his enemy. A human who couldn’t even have the slightest influence on his body, which was now his. But still, the existence he had hoped for. Khalid looked at his bedroom window with cold eyes, then closed the curtain of the carriage.

As Khalid’s carriage departed from the mansion, Nox slowly woke up from his sleep.

I Became a S*ave to the Man I Abandoned: Chapter 2 Part 1

Dolan collapsed onto the floor, clutching his blood-soaked head with both hands. The future he had envisioned, in which his son, who had always disregarded him, would kneel before him and admit that his judgment was foolish, was now crumbling before his eyes.

Despite believing that he could get his revenge on those who always pointed fingers at him for being foolish and greedy, his efforts ended with just a lump of flesh in his embrace.

It couldn’t be. This just couldn’t be. Feltyon looked down coldly at Dolan’s cries of despair and declared sharply,

“Prince Beorantz Ditrod Daidalontz is to be executed immediately for the crimes of regicide and attempted royal murder. The empress, as his accomplice, will be dethroned and confined to the imperial harem pending trial. And…”

His usually warm, auburn eyes now swept across those present like the sharp blade of a knife.

“Everyone present here is sufficiently suspected of having partaken in His Imperial Majesty’s assassination. They will be detained and interrogated.”

“We are innocent!” people cried out desperately from all sides, but the knights in gray armor began to seize them, forcing them to kneel as if they were corralling feeble animals.

Nox watched the chaotic scene with an unreal expression in the midst of it all. There were many trying to escape to the terrace, but nobody reached out to him as he stood motionless.

Surveying the surroundings with detachment, Nox’s eyes suddenly met Feltyon’s. A faint disgust flickered in Feltyon’s gaze. In that moment, Nox furrowed his brow, sensing that something was terribly wrong.

“And for those against whom there is concrete evidence of involvement in the assassination of His Imperial Majesty.”

Two knights approached Nox from behind and grabbed his arms. The black suit that had been enveloping his body got wrinkled in an instant.

Nox was dragged to the front and forced to kneel before Feltyon. Next to him, his father still clutched the head of the crown prince. Nox, rather than begging for mercy, lifted his head and stared straight into Feltyon’s auburn eyes.

“You cannot do this to me.”

Nox gritted his teeth. The emperor had wished to pass the throne to the second prince, not the crown prince. Nox had known this fact all along. But starting with his father, the patriarch, all the foolish elders of the family only saw what was in front of them and supported the crown prince with their power.

The emperor was physically frail but was by no means lacking in intelligence. Believing it could somehow be overturned—after all, the second prince was far superior to the crown prince—the Nox consistently provided information to the spy that the second prince had planted within their family.

‘I didn’t know about the assassination of the emperor, but I was the one who passed on the information about the attack on the second prince…’

He had thought he might not be able to save his family, but at least his life could be spared. However, given the current situation, Nox could not precisely gauge Feltyon’s intentions. Nox recalled the last letter Feltyon had sent him.

[A new dawn will soon rise. Just endure a little longer. Even though a false sun will ascend, it shall fall struck by an arrow. I have received the message that came as a bird. My thanks.]

And in that interval, Feltyon’s firm voice cut through like a knife.

“The crime of attempting to assassinate the sun of the empire is grave; therefore, you shall be executed here and now.”

Nox’s brow crumpled. Could it be, was he thinking of discarding Nox after use? He had thought only his foolish father was to blame.

Yet even so, no voice escaped him begging for his life. Just a sense of futility, thinking, so this is how it ends.

Even as Feltyon’s dark green eyes pierced him like daggers, he maintained a numb expression and raised his hand.

The knights standing beside Dolan and Nox did not hesitate to lift their swords. The cool sensation of the blade touching momentarily, assessing where to strike. And then, at that moment.

“Your Highness, I have a request.”

An unfamiliar voice interjected. Nox raised his gaze to look beside the second prince. A knight in gray armor, the one who had arrived with the crown prince’s head, was looking down at Nox from Feltyon’s side.

Hearing that strange voice, Nox felt an eerie sensation.
