The butler named Sir Zhang blinked at her:
“May you be like the stars.”
“Thank you.”
Liu Yu smiled and thanked him.
The New Year reception has always been a tradition at the Bright Academy. During the event, the directors serve them, symbolizing the passing of knowledge and skills.
They combined magic and ancient technology to create a magnificent and magical world. Liu Yu admitted that it was incredibly beautiful.
Starlight, moonlit night, lake water, fireflies, and the enormous reflection of the Light Wand in the sky.
“Miss Ferguson! Mr. Leslie! Over here!”
Prince Carlo waved at them from a distance.
Natasha, sitting beside Prince Carlo, also looked up and saw them.
Sister Bella, wearing a violet fluffy dress, stood affectionately next to Mr. Leslie, looking like a perfect match.
Her shining golden hair and Mr. Leslie’s silver hair swayed in the wind, intertwining and separating…
Natasha forced herself to smile.
“Miss Ferguson and Mr. Leslie are truly a match made in heaven!”
“Shut up! Mr. Leslie would never be interested in Miss Ferguson! Everyone knows that the Fergusons only managed to survive by relying on the blood of a merchant…”
“Mary!” Prince Carlo stopped her, “That’s enough! This is the Bright Academy.”
Mary angrily turned her head away.
“It’s… It’s nothing.” Natasha mustered her courage, “I… I don’t think Sister Bella cares.”
“Cares about what?”
Liu Yu approached and caught the end of the conversation.
“Ah… it’s…” Natasha hesitated, “It’s what Princess Mary said…”
Prince Carlo timely took over the conversation:
“Miss Ferguson, are you feeling well?”
Liu Yu adjusted her dress:
“Tough, but not bad.”
“Oh, Mr. Leslie, as soon as you appeared, all the ladies in the room focused on you,” Prince Carlo complained with a smile.
“I apologize for stealing your limelight.”
Mr. Leslie slightly bowed.
The two of them smiled at each other.
“Gaia, sit here!”
She pulled Gaia to sit beside her on the cushion.
The combination of the handsome boy and the beautiful girl, amidst the floating stars, made it seem like a dream.
No one said a word.
Finally, one of the butlers broke the silence as he approached with a tray:
“Ladies and gentlemen, would you like a glass of champagne?”
“Champagne?”
“Mmmhmm,” the butler smiled warmly, “To celebrate your admission to the Bright Academy! Shall we have a glass?”
Nearby, the Guardians dispersed on white woven blankets, playing their instruments, singing, and dancing freely.
From a distance, the butlers shouted:
“May you be like the stars, never to fall!”
“May you be like the stars, forever shining!”
…
The enthusiastic atmosphere infected the group of students, and they reached out their hands:
“Bring me a glass!”
“I want one too!”
“Blue, please!”
“I want a red one!”
Soon, everyone had a glass in their hands.
“How about a toast?”
Prince Carlo suggested.
“I’ll just take a sip, is that okay? My hand is injured and I just applied medicine,” Liu Yu took off her gloves and showed everyone her hand.
On the delicate and fair palm of her hand were numerous small scratches, densely packed. But the most shocking were a few deep wounds that revealed bones, as if something heavy had pressed down and rolled over them, turning the skin and flesh inside out.
Someone gasped, and Natasha exclaimed:
“Sister Bella, I didn’t realize you were hurt this badly… You should go back and rest.”
“Bella.”
Gaia turned his head with concern.
“It’s nothing, just a few small injuries,” Liu Yu looked at Gaia, her face pale from excessive blood loss, “But if Gaia is willing to drink for me, I would be happy. Gaia, will you?”
The young man, now dressed in a black tailcoat, looked thin and elegant. He turned his head and smiled:
“Sure.”
As Liu Yu was dazzled by his smile, for some reason, her nose tingled with a hint of sourness.
She quickly smiled and said:
“Gaia, you’re really kind.”
There was a chorus of wailing around them:
“Miss Ferguson, Mr. Leslie, stop smiling, we all know you are a match made in heaven!”
“A match made in heaven!”
“Mr. Leslie, remember the pledge I made on the racetrack? I swore to get you drunk… Please don’t mind,” Prince Carlo cheerfully clinked glasses with him, “To the God of Light!”
“To the God of Light.”
Liu Yu stepped back and watched them drink.
Gaia had a graceful posture while drinking, even while sitting on the cushion. His back was straight, like a tall and straight white poplar tree.
Perhaps it was getting hot, as he took off his black coat and vest and threw them aside. He rolled up his sleeves a bit, exposing his elbows and arms with beautiful lines. On his white silk shirt, he had undone two of the buttons that were usually fastened to the top, revealing a bit of collarbone and Adam’s apple.
This was truly a youth without a dead angle in any direction.
No part of him was not refined and pleasing to the eye.
Liu Yu stared at him, calculating his alcohol tolerance—just in case, if he drank too much, he would be useless.
“Miss Ferguson, don’t forget what you promised me.”
