I Became The Villain The Hero Is Obsessed With: Chapter 12 Part 1

EP.12 Teleportation

A vast mansion, picturesque as if taken straight from a painting.

This imposing estate, with its white façade and an overflow of modern sophistication, seems to declare that only the rich may converge here, explicitly denying access to the commoners. Somewhere close to this grandeur, I was in hiding.

The target I was currently after was an A-class villain—the Teleporter.

His main skill was instant teleportation. Unlike my own faulty teleportation, his was far superior. True ‘teleportation’ one could say, as he suffered no after-effects of the move, though it seemed to have some range limitations.

One could argue it was a broken ability. No, it was indeed a broken ability. However, whether it’s due to a small ambition or sheer stupidity, this guy was using such formidable power for nothing more than robbing banks.

Well, at least for now.

If we consider the timeline of the original comic that I’m part of, this would be around issue 5? The very early stages. Imagine being at issue 5 of a series spanning 200 issues.

It’s a stroke of luck, really. Had I been transplanted into a later point, say past issue 100, I would be in a complete mess. By then, the balance of power would be so out of whack, the original low-threshold villains would be long gone, and each emerging antagonist would have the capacity to bring about world destruction.

Even our Seo Eun, the main villain in the Great Depression episode that concluded around issue 150, had the power to take down just Korea’s communication networks. She could have caused global commotion had she not decided to limit her conquest.

This Teleporter, he’s nothing if not tenacious. Early on, he goes up against Stardust. Caught off guard, the villain is subdued and knocked out by Stardust—only to be drenched in anesthetic and thrown into a cell, knowing full well he’d use his teleportation to escape upon regaining consciousness.

Caught early as a minor criminal, this guy makes a grand reappearance in the ‘Great Jailbreak’ episode, where all the villains escape prison. He ascends to become one of Stardust’s most tormenting adversaries.

Originally, he was just another villain chasing small, certain happiness—content with petty theft—until after years of being drugged by anesthetics and locked away, he breaks out, becoming obsessed with revenge against Stardust. His transformation into darkness was complete.

Teleportation as an ability is insidious and strikes delicately. In subsequent episodes, he would pop up, punch, disappear, and keep doing so…

Had [Stardust!] been a webtoon, viewers would be screaming for his demise, frustrated at the “sweet potato” level of stagnation in the plot. As a comic published in book form, real-time reactions aren’t available, but there must have been many readers fuming through the chapters.

And I am no exception to this sentiment.

Which is why this guy needs to be taken down while there’s still a chance.

Back to the mansion’s exterior.

Waiting nearby with a parked car, I reached out to Seo Eun through my earpiece. Normally, I would handle this on my own, but this particular villain wasn’t an ordinary case.

“Seo Eun-ah, should we start making a move?” I asked.

[Are you still not inside, hyung? Go in already.] Seo Eun’s voice came through.

“Right, but is it okay to just teleport straight into the living room? What if that guy is there?” I hesitated.

[Sigh. How many times have I told you? If that happens, just throw the tracker and shoot. He’ll probably dodge the bullets with teleportation, but just in case, you never know. The tracker, on the other hand, using spider silk, is faster than a bullet and will definitely stick.] She explained again.

“Why on earth is a spider silk-based tracker faster than a bullet… I just don’t get it.” I was perplexed.

[Because the bullets are factory-made and the tracker is my own creation – obviously, mine’s faster. It travels through a silken thread, which faces less air resistance… But then again, I could explain this to you a hundred times, and you still wouldn’t get it because you studied humanities, right? You might as well not question it…] She retorted, a tad exasperated.

“Hey… Even a humanities graduate understands the basics. I think. But still, it doesn’t make sense to me,” I replied, still puzzled.
