Title: “I Became The Villain The Hero Is Obsessed With”
EP.23 There Was a Bit of a Commotion
As I watched the tower of ice cream crumbling towards me, I was lost in thought. What have I done to deserve such a trial? Of course, I have made many mistakes. I have, indeed, but it almost feels like the universe is conspiring against me.
What are the odds of running into someone at the festival who is hell-bent on capturing me? And what are the chances that this person’s companion would become involved with me? It’s absurd. There must be some malevolent force at play.
In that very brief moment, as the precarious ice cream tower collapsed towards me, I had already perfectly envisioned the future. The ice cream smearing all over my body. That woman named Chaehyun would naturally, given her personality, offer to compensate me by asking for my phone number or bank account. Both are serious breaches of personal information. Any information handed over like this will eventually find its way to Stardust over time.
Checkmate. I’d be trapped without anywhere to move.
And yet, running away without sharing that information is also problematic. Isn’t it suspicious to flee covered in ice cream without asking any questions? Ultimately, the issue is whether Stardust has sensed anything about me. To the eyes of others, it may seem unlikely to suspect anything from such a brief encounter, but as someone who has read the original work, the story is different. I cannot be sure how developed Shin Haru’s intuition or sixth sense is by now, but clearly, it must be somewhat enhanced. Having read the original more times than I can count, I am certain that he would have felt something amiss about me. I am sure of it.
My thoughts ended there.
The ice cream tower, now moments from touching me. The moment it makes contact, my life could twist in a horrendous direction.
Do you know that in moments of life-or-death, you find strength you never knew you had?
That’s exactly how I felt in that situation.
I had to move.
If I didn’t, it would be over for me.
“Hyaaaah!”
“Whoa!!”
I rolled away.
The Egoistic ultimate technique: Forward Roll.
Rolling and tumbling.
Dust coated my coat and face.
But sometimes, a man must not be afraid to get a little dirty.
For my future, for the happiness of this other world.
I rolled.
And no, I am not ashamed.
Not ashamed at all!
“Oppa!”
“Mr. Dain!”
Startled by my sudden ground rolling, Seo Eun and Ms. Subin rushed over to me.
“Ah, I’m fine. All good.”
I stood up, dusting off my clothes, though it was futile since I was covered from head to toe in dirt. But I went through the motions. I want to run away.
“Oh my… Are you okay? I’m so terribly sorry. It’s just, I’m so clumsy…sob.”
Kim Chaehyun approached me with tears welling in her eyes.
The ten-layer ice cream was now splattered on the ground, thanks to my super-dodge. It looked like a giant rainbow worm squashed flat against the earth. I could only feel relieved that it hadn’t stuck to me.
First things first, I had to rid myself of this teary Kim Chaehyun. Why the sudden execution of a victory-by-sympathy strategy? If anyone should be crying, it’s me.
Shin Haru was approaching from behind, looking perplexed. No! Don’t come any closer! Don’t remember my face!
Normally, I would be the one to teach those who seek victory through tears that crying never solves anything, but the timing was off. The longer I stay here, the worse it gets. Now isn’t the time for the crazy psycho egoistic me; it’s time for sweet Dain to step in.
“It’s okay. Everyone makes mistakes. I overreacted a bit, haha. I should have just stepped aside.”
“But still…”
“It’s okay. No worries.”
And now, her tears flowed down her cheeks. Please, calm down. The longer you take, the worse it gets for me. Shin Haru is already looking this way!
“Let’s go… shall we, Seo Eun?”
I tried to hastily excuse myself from the spot.
However, Seo Eun was glaring at the crying Kim Chaehyun, her face a picture of intense displeasure.
