Trembling hostages, terrorists wielding guns, the man standing tall atop a pile of chairs—everyone was silent during this tense moment. Then, from within the crowd, a man stood up and began to clap.
Clap, clap, clap, clap, clap, clap.
His applause was unlike those timid claps one makes just for show; this was a clear and resounding sound, as if he had researched how to clap in the loudest possible way. The echoes filled the space, catching everyone’s attention almost too successfully.
As all eyes turned to the man clapping in the midst of silence, the orchestrator of all this terror and A-list villain, Monkey Spanner, spoke.
“Who the hell is that crazy bastard?”
Literally. In a situation where any suspicious move would welcome a barrage of bullets from ever-watchful terrorists, rising to draw attention by clapping was nothing short of madness.
And if you looked at his strange face, you’d be even more convinced of his insanity.
The man wore a mask that covered his entire face—a garish yellow, or was it slightly orange? In any case, it was an unbalanced yellow mask. The mask even had a slight smile over the eyes and a star below, resembling something a clown might wear.
With that grotesque appearance, the terrorist lackeys and even Monkey Spanner, a veteran villain who had seen it all, couldn’t help but hesitate.
First, Monkey Spanner motioned with his eyes to the cameraman to cut the feed. After all, broadcasting an unpredictable situation like this wouldn’t do anyone any good.
Who was Monkey Spanner?
His power was relatively insignificant—minimal super strength. Yet, it was evident from his bulging muscles, straining against the fabric of his clothes, what his abilities included.
However, unlike other villains with similar strength, Monkey Spanner was designated an A-grade villain by the Association. Even considering the Association’s tendency to overrate villain ranks as opposed to heroes, his status was exceptional.
His ranking stemmed from his excellent organizational skills. Somehow, he managed to command hundreds of underlings as effortlessly as if they were his limbs.
Alongside the so-called ‘Jumping Monkey Club,’ they operated in the shadows of South Korea, robbing banks, dealing drugs, and scraping by—until Monkey Spanner suddenly decided he wanted to swim in bigger waters and led his minions to Mexico.
Full of bravado to take over a Mexican drug cartel, they were instead utterly shaken down by the cartel. His army, which once commanded hundreds, now barely numbered a hundred.
The crazy money earned through terrorism was blown away in a wave, and so, with his tail between his legs, he returned to his homeland. Sensing impending ruin, he played a desperate card.
Their plan was to extract a hefty sum through a major act of terror in Korea before taking another shot at Mexico.
Lurking in Busan Port after smuggling themselves back in, they were biding their time for an opportunity. Initially, they had planned to execute the terror act as soon as they returned, but plans were thwarted when someone named ‘Legostick’ or whatever started a terror spree in Seoul first.
Terrorism thrives on drawing attention, and if someone else is already hogging the spotlight, the government would pay less attention to another act of terror.
