EP.5 After The Show
“Ah, I’m gonna die…”
Wow.
Seriously dying.
“Ugh…ugh.”
Barely making it to the bed, I fell asleep as if knocked out cold.
“Ugh!”
Save the villain!
***
“Ha, sigh.”
When I opened my eyes, it was the next morning.
Having slept away almost half a day, I got up with my aching body and turned on the TV.
The news was covering the incident I had caused the day before.
[News Wide – An In-depth Analysis of the Villain ‘Egotistic’]
On the TV, two panelists were discussing me.
Something about superpowers, hacking skills…
Then bam – my face appeared on the screen.
Black hair and a gray mask covering half my face.
“Wow! Mom, I’m on TV! Oh, right, you’re not in this world, are you?”
Mother, are you doing well in that other world?
I’ve become quite famous in this one.
But it seems people are out for my blood.
“Oh, my poor aching body…”
I slapped my back as I got up from the bed.
There’s no time to lie around.
I noticed I was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday.
A black robe that reached down to my legs.
The fact that they were wrinkled from sleeping in them didn’t sit well with me.
“Phew, I better change clothes.”
After putting on some comfortable clothes from the wardrobe, I turned on my laptop.
The Windows startup sound chimed as it booted up.
Glancing around the room while my laptop started, I saw a small one-room apartment bathed in sunlight through the window.
“Tsk. I need to leave here soon.”
Even though I’ve been living here quite some time since I dropped into this world, there’s no need to stay now that I’ve earned some money.
Now that I’m an A-class villain, shouldn’t I live somewhere more appropriate?
At my level, I’m not just A-class but maybe AAA-class. Why don’t they promote me to S-class?
Well, I haven’t done enough evil deeds to warrant that yet.
But anyway, I wonder how people are reacting?
Logging onto the internet on my laptop, I saw…
“Let’s see…wow, there’s been quite an uproar.”
The portal headlines were all about me.
[Live Broadcast of a Major Terrorist Act… Who is the Villain ‘Egotistic’?]
“First time receiving this much hot attention.”
As expected, stirring up controversy was the right answer.
If I had just hijacked a boat in a corner of the Han River, who would have cared?
Given how the Korean Heroes Association operates, they would try to bury the incident quietly. But still, it probably would have made the 9 o’clock news…
[This afternoon at 2 PM, a major terrorist act was narrowly averted on a Han River cruise… Fortunately, ‘zero casualties’]
That’s probably how it would have ended.
Not like now, with my story being the talk of the day.
That’s the terrifying power of being on the scene.
Imagine, you’re playing Nintendo with a friend, and suddenly the TV goes off.
Then suddenly, I appear. Dressed in black, wearing a gray mask, and grinning wickedly.
And what’s that? A bomb on the ship? But the first person to press the button can survive?
I was thrilled when I saw this in a movie, but imagine how hooked the South Korean public was watching this unfold in real life.
Honestly, this is like a grand reality show. Should I have secured some PPL? Maybe stuck a cola poster on the cabin wall or something.
With ridiculous musings, I continued to check out the reactions on the internet.
Scary, impressive… etc. The public was focused on the newly emerged A-class villain. Honestly, even I think the choice between a broadcast hijacking and a deadly ultimatum would have a huge impact.
The Human Chants couldn’t be left out either. In the end, no one pushed the button. Justice prevails and all that. The incident proved that humans aren’t inherently selfish, showcasing human goodness, and so on.
After a few hours of searching, I had a general sense of the atmosphere and decided to recap what I gained from this show.
First, I made my name known to the nation.
Egotistic. Honestly, it feels like a bit of a misstep.
Considering my black robe, maybe I should’ve gone with ‘Black Robe’ or ‘Persona’ or something.
Well…
