Chapter 2: Adding Insult to Injury
Qin Lao Tai Tai pointed to Xie Shi and said, “Take Aunt Pan and the others to settle the children first. Wang Shi and Mei Niang will stay in the delivery room to take care of things. Once everything is settled, come over and help.”
“Yes, mother.”
Qin Liu Xi instructed Chen Pi to lead the others to settle, while she and Qi Huang moved Gu Shi to the prepared delivery room. At the moment, she had a slight headache.
She preferred quiet and did not like to go out. Therefore, the old mansion did not have too many servants. Only Qi Huang and his sister would stay by her side. In the mansion, there was the Li family of four, with Li Shen managing the kitchen and other miscellaneous tasks, Li Su and a boy named Li Cheng serving as the steward and gatekeeper, doing everything.
With few masters in the old mansion, Qin Liu Xi didn’t like disturbances. With just a few people, it was enough. However, now that there were more people, it became a bit inconvenient.
In a hurry, Qin Liu Xi placed Gu Shi on the temporary bed. She took a glance at her and felt a slight chill in her heart.
In just a short while, the black aura on this third sister-in-law’s face became even heavier. It seemed uncertain if she would be able to pass through this childbirth safely.
She looked at the large belly and absentmindedly touched her wrist. It was twins.

Qin Liu Xi took off the jade pendant hanging from her waist and tied it to Gu Shi’s collar, then glanced at Qi Huang, who had returned. Without saying a word, the latter walked out again.
When Qin Lao Tai Tai and the others saw this action, they were all stunned and looked at Qin Liu Xi.
Qin Liu Xi remained calm and said, “This is a jade pendant that has been consecrated for protection. It will bless the safe delivery of the twins.”
Qin Lao Tai Tai’s face softened slightly, and her eyes showed a hint of anticipation.
The woman who was holding Gu Shi, Wang Shi, Qin Liu Xi’s birth mother, said, “Xi Er has a good heart. Your third sister-in-law will definitely give birth safely.”
While the words were comforting, when they saw the weak person on the bed and thought about the recent crisis in the family, the worry in Wang Shi and the others’ eyes grew stronger.
Qi Huang returned to the guest room, holding a small box. Seeing the worried expressions on everyone’s faces, she quietly stood beside Qin Liu Xi.
Although she didn’t have much affection for the Qin family due to Qin Liu Xi, the Qin family’s sudden arrival and their current state made her reluctant to bring more trouble.
“Has the midwife arrived yet?” Qin Lao Tai Tai looked anxious and glanced outside a few times.
Qin Liu Xi’s voice was cold as she replied, “It’s raining outside now, and the road conditions are not good. It was a sudden invitation, so she might be delayed.”
Qin Lao Tai Tai’s lips tightened even more.
Just as they were talking, a few people walked in from outside. They were Qin family’s second wife, Xie Shi, and two concubines, one of whom was Qin Liu Xi’s birth mother, Wan Shi.
Upon entering the room, Wan Shi’s gaze fell on Qin Liu Xi first.
Qin Liu Xi also looked over, and the mother and daughter locked eyes.
Wan Shi frowned slightly, showing some dissatisfaction and confusion.
This daughter was born as a chubby baby, but why did she become so thin and pale as she grew up? If it weren’t for her long hair, she would probably look no different from a nun.
Qin Liu Xi secretly sighed. Wan Shi, her birth mother, was already in her thirties and had given birth to two children. But looking at her face, which was fair and tender, even without makeup, she didn’t lose any beauty at all. She looked like an eighteen-year-old girl, pure and alluring.
Looking at her plain appearance, Qin Liu Xi couldn’t help but feel pity. It seems that she hasn’t suffered any grievances in the Qin family, and not only that, she has been living a good life to the point where she has forgotten about her daughter.
Qin Liu Xi slightly bent her knees and saluted, “Mother.”
Wan Shi pursed her lips. “You look a bit ugly. You don’t look like me or your little brother.”
