Hardworking Pay-to-Win Knight: Chapter 17

“15 years later is the starting year of the game.”
The gate opens in the peaceful (although not really) Ardenia continent, and creatures from another world start to invade.
Humanity initially managed to defend against them, but they were unable to defeat the relentless waves of enemies and both the empire and the kingdom were forced to abandon their territories and be driven out to the outskirts.
And then, 10 years later.
Humanity raises an army to reclaim their territories and seek revenge against the monsters.
Hence, Revenge.
Revenge is a game that is like playing a game of Go, where the objective is to reclaim the continent from the monsters.
“Both empires, the alliance, and the kingdom will all be destroyed within 5 years? Well, it’s rather strange that they’re not being destroyed considering the circumstances.”
In a way, Revenge can be considered an apocalypse concept. The gameplay revolves around humanity’s destruction and their fight to reclaim it.
I looked at the whole map again.
The map resembles a grid with monster icons scattered all over.
“Of course… the higher level zones are located outside the grid. However, there are special boss monsters in the hotspots…. If we compare it to Ardenia, it is the stronghold located in the southwest of our territory. The capital city, Jumail.”
And at the center of the grid, at the heaven’s origin, lies the only mythical-level monster in Revenge, the Revenant Dragon.
“A name you would only see in textbooks…”
It has been over 10 years since Revenge was released, but the Revenant Dragon has yet to be caught.
Most of the grid has been claimed by players, except for the dungeon located at the center of the grid. It remains impregnable.
“The method of acquiring territories is unique. It suits the fact that the world is shaped like a grid.”
Ardenia continent is shaped like a 19×19 grid, and there are 361 intersection points where lines meet.
Now, these intersection points have become dungeons instead of mineral veins. If a guild clears four adjacent dungeons and creates a [home], that place becomes a territory and is owned by the guild that conquered the dungeons.
Once a territory is obtained, the guild can collect taxes and enjoy various event benefits and special raids, resulting in tremendous profits. Therefore, players are said to be constantly participating in guild battles to expand their territories.
“I have no choice but to give up on my territory for now.”
I organized my plans. First, I have to avoid the orcs chasing me and move to an area without monsters. If possible, I should head north and reach the low-level zone 100 kilometers away.
Fortunately, my territory is located on the outskirts, so it’s not far from the low-level zone.
“Let’s see… If it’s a dungeon to the north… it’s goblins. They are classified as ordinary.”
Even if I don’t know about orcs (high-level), goblins (ordinary) are enough to handle for the occupants of the territory.
“Of course, it would be better to be more certain and move two spots above…”.
Two spots above, that is, when it reaches the periphery of the grid, wild boars (ordinary), bears (ordinary), and wolves (ordinary) appear. The situation improves significantly if I can make it here. Moreover, these creatures drop meat that can be used as food and leather, which can be used in various ways!
The problem is the distance.
“Two spots is 200 kilometers…”.
200 kilometers is the distance from Seoul to Jeollado. If I were alone, it wouldn’t be a problem, but how can I expect the occupants of the territory to travel such a distance? There will definitely be dropouts, and the morale of the occupants will hit rock bottom.
“Meow!”
Suddenly, Cheddar meowed. When I turned my head, he opened his mouth.
“The installation of Revenge is complete.”
“Alright, let’s give it a try.”
Revenge is a convenient game that can be played on mobile, PC, and through a connector.
I looked at Cheddar for a moment and sat in front of my PC. Since I’m at home, I might as well try it out with a keyboard and mouse.
[The beautiful and peaceful Ardenia continent….]
An intro video plays, showing a beautiful castle, a vast lake, and a vast forest.

It is the seventh work of the Chronicles of Syndroia, and is set in 2089-90, 70 years after the previous work, Above Your Head. Living in the medieval land for 20 years, but it turns out that place was inside a game? “Thank you so much for participating in the interview! These days, it seems like we can see Sir Jaeyeon’s face everywhere as you are actively engaged. Sir Jaeyeon, what do you think is the driving force behind such passion?” “It’s the in-game purchases.” “Oh, really! In-game purchases…yes?” “Because you have to work harder to make in-game purchases.” “Ah, I see…?!” Making in-game purchases allows you to obtain items and abilities! However, in the end, don’t you have to earn money to make in-game purchases? Today, as well as tomorrow, the knight works hard.
