I Became a S*ave to the Man I Abandoned: Chapter 23

Nox Renerio.

Episode 12

“This is not a place for the likes of you.”

“Get lost.”

Puh, someone spat next to Khalid’s head. And as he watched the gatekeepers entering, Khalid stood up with a twitch in his body. Just one last time. Just one time, he wanted to see Nox.

If he burdened himself by liking him too much, by loving him, and thus rejected himself, he had thought that he would disappear obediently. He just wanted to see Nox one last time. Even from a distance.

He walked around the walls of the mansion, dragging his aching body. Going right and then turning, he soon came across the garden of the room where the lord resided.

“My lord…!”

And there, in the garden, Nox was standing at the right moment. His hair shimmered green in the sunlight, his waist stood straight. His cruel lord, who hadn’t changed even though Khalid had disappeared. Khalid grabbed onto the iron bars attached to the low wall and called out to him. No, he tried to call out.

“……”

If only there were no small spirits running towards Nox in the garden, he would have done it.

“My lord! I have brought what you asked for!”

“Yes.”

Nox seemed to have acquired a new young servant. The child with ordinary brown hair and freckles couldn’t be called cute even in empty words, but Nox received the item brought by the servant as if treating Khalid and petted his head.

“You did well.”

“Yes…”

The young servant’s face turned slightly red. Khalid felt his heart ache as if something inside was brightening.

Because he loved the lord, he endured such things. And a boy of the same age as Khalid came into the place where he used to be after he was rejected. When Khalid saw the boy’s face, he knew. How much he loved him. And the fact that he was showing it without any restraint.

The hand holding onto the iron bars trembled. He wanted to break the hand that brought the item to the boy standing next to Nox’s side. That place belongs to me. Not anyone else but Khalid, his own place.

But he was driven out of that place by Nox’s hand. How, how could he do that? How can he so easily fill that place after kicking me out? How?

Khalid began to gasp for breath. Soon, he started to dry heave. Khalid grabbed onto the iron bars, sat down hesitantly, and dry heaved several times in that spot. He felt like his stomach was shrinking.

He spewed out a lot of bile. Khalid took one more look at Nox and the young servant. And soon, his eyes widened.

Nox was smiling towards the young servant. As if smiling at me. Just like he used to look at me. Khalid tightly gripped the iron bars. So, does that mean, it doesn’t matter who’s in that place?

“…Even if it’s not me, it doesn’t matter?”

Something boiling could be felt inside Khalid’s belly. Khalid didn’t properly know the name of that emotion. It was the first time he felt it in his life. The upper part of his stomach hurt. He held his upper belly and watched until the two disappeared from the garden.

Until Nox took the young servant and disappeared into the mansion. Khalid stupidly sat there and as soon as Nox disappeared, he stood up from his spot. And he started to walk unsteadily. The wounds on his back didn’t burst, fortunately, but the parts where the knights struck him throbbed.

“My lord… You are truly a cruel person.”

He muttered words that couldn’t reach anymore, heading towards the inn where he had temporarily stayed. He felt no strength in his whole body.

Khalid returned to the inn and leaned against the door, slumping down. The image of Nox and the young servant didn’t leave his mind. Khalid raised his knees and buried his face. His hands trembled. Even though he thought that he would be satisfied just by being able to see his face for even one more time, even from a distance. But his stomach felt warm, as if something inside was boiling.

“…Why.”

Why, how, and why. My lord, how can you do this to me.

I Became a S*ave to the Man I Abandoned: Chapter 2 Part 1

Dolan collapsed onto the floor, clutching his blood-soaked head with both hands. The future he had envisioned, in which his son, who had always disregarded him, would kneel before him and admit that his judgment was foolish, was now crumbling before his eyes.

Despite believing that he could get his revenge on those who always pointed fingers at him for being foolish and greedy, his efforts ended with just a lump of flesh in his embrace.

It couldn’t be. This just couldn’t be. Feltyon looked down coldly at Dolan’s cries of despair and declared sharply,

“Prince Beorantz Ditrod Daidalontz is to be executed immediately for the crimes of regicide and attempted royal murder. The empress, as his accomplice, will be dethroned and confined to the imperial harem pending trial. And…”

His usually warm, auburn eyes now swept across those present like the sharp blade of a knife.

“Everyone present here is sufficiently suspected of having partaken in His Imperial Majesty’s assassination. They will be detained and interrogated.”

“We are innocent!” people cried out desperately from all sides, but the knights in gray armor began to seize them, forcing them to kneel as if they were corralling feeble animals.

Nox watched the chaotic scene with an unreal expression in the midst of it all. There were many trying to escape to the terrace, but nobody reached out to him as he stood motionless.

Surveying the surroundings with detachment, Nox’s eyes suddenly met Feltyon’s. A faint disgust flickered in Feltyon’s gaze. In that moment, Nox furrowed his brow, sensing that something was terribly wrong.

“And for those against whom there is concrete evidence of involvement in the assassination of His Imperial Majesty.”

Two knights approached Nox from behind and grabbed his arms. The black suit that had been enveloping his body got wrinkled in an instant.

Nox was dragged to the front and forced to kneel before Feltyon. Next to him, his father still clutched the head of the crown prince. Nox, rather than begging for mercy, lifted his head and stared straight into Feltyon’s auburn eyes.

“You cannot do this to me.”

Nox gritted his teeth. The emperor had wished to pass the throne to the second prince, not the crown prince. Nox had known this fact all along. But starting with his father, the patriarch, all the foolish elders of the family only saw what was in front of them and supported the crown prince with their power.

The emperor was physically frail but was by no means lacking in intelligence. Believing it could somehow be overturned—after all, the second prince was far superior to the crown prince—the Nox consistently provided information to the spy that the second prince had planted within their family.

‘I didn’t know about the assassination of the emperor, but I was the one who passed on the information about the attack on the second prince…’

He had thought he might not be able to save his family, but at least his life could be spared. However, given the current situation, Nox could not precisely gauge Feltyon’s intentions. Nox recalled the last letter Feltyon had sent him.

[A new dawn will soon rise. Just endure a little longer. Even though a false sun will ascend, it shall fall struck by an arrow. I have received the message that came as a bird. My thanks.]

And in that interval, Feltyon’s firm voice cut through like a knife.

“The crime of attempting to assassinate the sun of the empire is grave; therefore, you shall be executed here and now.”

Nox’s brow crumpled. Could it be, was he thinking of discarding Nox after use? He had thought only his foolish father was to blame.

Yet even so, no voice escaped him begging for his life. Just a sense of futility, thinking, so this is how it ends.

Even as Feltyon’s dark green eyes pierced him like daggers, he maintained a numb expression and raised his hand.

The knights standing beside Dolan and Nox did not hesitate to lift their swords. The cool sensation of the blade touching momentarily, assessing where to strike. And then, at that moment.

“Your Highness, I have a request.”

An unfamiliar voice interjected. Nox raised his gaze to look beside the second prince. A knight in gray armor, the one who had arrived with the crown prince’s head, was looking down at Nox from Feltyon’s side.

Hearing that strange voice, Nox felt an eerie sensation.
