I Became The Villain The Hero Is Obsessed With: Chapter 19 Part 1

EP.19 The End of the World

Tying people to train tracks, if left to proceed, five individuals would be hit. But if the lever is pulled, only one tied to another track would die. Would you pull the lever?

This is the dilemma posed by Egoistic.

In fact, it’s a well-known and philosophically famous paradox, commonly known as the trolley dilemma.

If the train continues on its path, it’ll strike five people. But if you pull the lever, only one person gets hit. From a utilitarian perspective, pulling the lever is the correct action since it saves four lives.

But can you truly do it?

If the train hits five people, it’s a tragic accident. Well, here it would be a tragic act of terror. However, if you pull the lever, from that moment on, it’s no longer an accident. Those five may die due to an accident, but by pulling the lever, you’ve caused the death of that one person. A person who could have lived had you not interfered.

…That’s the kind of dilemma it is.

And I actualized this dilemma in the real world.

Stardus, she elegantly overcame a situation that couldn’t be solved by mere contemplation over this hypothetical scenario. She didn’t muse over where to direct the train by turning a lever.

Instead, she took action herself and brought the train to a halt.

Stardus is a superhuman with extraordinary abilities.

Like me, she has dual abilities. She’s extremely strong and can also fly. Technically, her powers are super strength and flight.

And since she’s a dual ability bearer like me, her powers are somewhat flawed, though certainly not to the same extent as mine.

Those with just super strength can bring down buildings single-handedly. As for those with flight alone, some can soar through the skies at speeds surpassing Mach. Of course, both of these heroes are in America.

Stardus, she isn’t quite at that level. Her super strength is considerable but not to the extent of toppling buildings in one go, and her flight, while capable, isn’t at supersonic speeds.

…Of course, despite also being a dual ability bearer with severe shortcomings, she’s still much better off than me… But it’s undeniable that she has her deficiencies.

Nonetheless, dual ability bearers are a rarity, and the combined force of super strength and flight interacts well together, ranking her as an A-grade hero, albeit with a slight 2% feeling of lack.

However, she is the protagonist of this comic.

What sets her apart from other ability wielders is that her powers evolve.

Facing hardships and adversities, her abilities grow increasingly formidable.

So, this time I decided to set up a muscle enhancement event.

Make Stardus Great Again.

In truth, while her original strength wouldn’t stop a barreling train, in a real crisis, driven by the desire to save others, her strength surged explosively.

And her popularity soared as well.

Despite our opposition, which had once diminished her popularity, this incident has now turned the tides, boosting her fame once again. Her act of throwing herself at the train to stop it has deeply moved the nation, with people watching her heroism on televisions across the country.

It’s great that Stardus has regained favor.

But why on earth are there rumors of a hot romance surfacing now?

***

I am watching TV with a feeling of emptiness.

After just barely managing to return home via teleportation following the completion of the mission and having a restorative sleep in my recovery device, I was awoken by Seo-eun dragging me, insisting that I watch the TV.

She firmly seated me on the couch, and I saw the bold headline of today’s broadcast.

[Egoistic and Stardus Romance Rumors]

“What the hell is this?” I blurted out almost immediately upon viewing the TV.

Regardless of my reaction, the people on the TV started speaking about what they had on their agenda.

“Yes, welcome to Entertainment Now! These two are all the rage these days. Egoistic—the most popular villain in South Korea, and Stardus, the rising nova of heroes! The romance rumors surrounding these two are currently sweeping the Korean entertainment industry.”
