EP.3 The Show Must Go On
Inside the chaotic cabin, people were tangled up, fighting with one another.
“What are you doing! Press the button now!”
“Move it! If you can’t press it, I will!”
“Have you all gone mad? The other side hasn’t pressed it yet, why are you reacting like this!”
“If we are a little bit late, we will die! Shouldn’t we press it in advance?”
Two boats.
Two bombs.
Two buttons.
The boat that presses the button will ‘certainly’ survive.
But if you don’t press the button, there’s a ‘chance’ you might die.
In fact, if you think about it logically and sensibly, there’s no reason to press it.
Unless there is some lunatic who, upon seeing a button, feels compelled to press it regardless, nobody would.
It’s not like one boat is filled with prisoners who are likely to press it out of madness.
And it’s not that if both boats don’t press them, they both explode!
So logically, if both sides just stay still, they will win, meaning no one should press it…
But then! If logically there is no reason to press it, wouldn’t the solution be to obstruct logical thinking?
My agitators, released into the fray, start quickly with your incitement and fabrication!
“They’re going to press it! I know it all!”
“Exactly! We need to press it first if we want to survive! Can you guarantee those bastards won’t press theirs? In this world, it’s kill or be killed!”
And so, I strategically released instigators onto both boats.
Before the people could think rationally, they spread the rumor that if we don’t press the button first, we will all die.
As a result, the already frazzled crowd began to feel sudden unease and terror.
Their logical judgment blurred, they ultimately descended into a collective madness.
Let’s press the button before they do!
Of course, as time goes by, this will likely turn into a battle between emotion and reason.
Driven by fear incited by the agitators, ‘emotion’ will tell them to press the button right now.
To press it, as that’s how you will survive.
However, as time passes, ‘reason’ will start to emerge in their minds.
Why, you ask?
As time goes by, they will start to realize something.
“They still haven’t pressed the button on the other boat!”
The woman’s piercing scream shakes the room.
Yes.
As time passes, what people come to realize.
That the other side has not yet detonated their boat by pressing the button.
If you think about it, there’s really no need for either to press the button.
The stage I have set is perfect.
First of all, I’ll cut off the internet and phone lines from everyone on the boat.
Wi-Fi? LTE? None of that.
Those staring at their phones will think their phone is broken.
And at the same time, a broadcast begins on TV.
A broadcast I prepared in advance.
Right now, there is a bomb installed on your boat.
If it explodes, everyone dies.
But there is a detonator on your boat.
However, this is not for your bomb but for the bomb on the opposite boat.
If you press it, the people on that boat will die.
Oh, but what’s this? The boat next to you has a detonator too.
Even if you don’t press yours, who knows if they’ll press theirs?
To press or not to press the button. The decision is yours.
You have 30 minutes. Good luck.
And the pandemonium begins.
Like a war, complete chaos.
In the captain’s cabin, the captain ponders holding the detonator, while passengers continue to scream and shout.
Yes.
