Chapter 10: Abyssal Beast Pit
Chaos.
The abyssal beasts gathered from all directions, evolving into various forms.
None of them seemed normal.
Most had grown additional limbs.
Three-legged, four-legged, centipede-like…
The forms of their legs also varied, some with fins, some with hooked spikes.
These differences were caused by their origins from different places.
Some even had spherical metal webs on their bodies that unfolded, shortening their limbs and transforming into bird-like structures capable of flight.
The newly arrived abyssal beasts were soon blocked by their companions.
Worms released the instinct for abyssal beasts to attack their kin.
These diversely evolved abyssal beasts began to fight among themselves.
The centipede-like abyssal beast pushed towards the depths, charging wildly.
Its frequent vibrations drew the attention of nearby companions, who began to surround and attack it.
A companion with hooked limbs stabbed its appendages into the centipede’s body, pinning it in place.
A bird-like abyssal beast swooped down from above, attacking the centipede’s head.
It got caught by the centipede’s head-net and flapped frantically in place.
Eventually, the group of abyssal beasts turned into a frenzied, shaking ball.
The appendages locked them firmly together, never letting go, stuck in a perpetual standoff.
Just as the small vehicle entered the pit, it was blocked by these various appendage balls.
Fortunately, the abyssal beasts were more interested in attacking their own kind that caused greater vibrations, ignoring the vehicle.
Carefully avoiding the battle zone,
They came to a slightly quieter area.
But this “quiet” was only devoid of metal clashing sounds.
A deep, dull roar from vibrations continued uninterrupted.
It came from beneath the ground.
In Mo Ling’s vision, the underground was filled with appendage balls formed by abyssal beasts.
The appendage balls formed from battles did not disappear into thin air.
They kept vibrating until they sank into the soil.
But evolution continued.
The stronger abyssal beasts among them forcibly broke free from the appendage cages.
After further evolution,
They emerged from the ground.
Some transformed into mole-like forms, with appendages turning into claws.
Others shed a leg, and the remaining leg morphed into a writhing worm shape.
But most became various insect forms.
Cicadas, centipedes, ants, mole crickets.
Mo Ling was deeply shocked.
This was convergent evolution.
They had no relation to the creatures on Earth, yet due to similar environments, they evolved close structural forms.
Additionally, these creatures emerging from the ground shared a common feature:
They were enormous.
A gigantic, ferocious ant-like abyssal beast broke through the surface, heading towards the center.
Its massive shadow instantly covered the vehicle,
This terrifying creature paid no attention to the commotion below it, perhaps it no longer posed any obstacle.
The vibrations forced Li Luo to stop the vehicle, staring blankly as the ant moved forward.
Inside the metal block, Mo Ling was tossed around severely.
Once the ant had gone far, he finally recovered from the shakes.
“That was terrifying.”
The limited space inside the metal block offered no way to deal with such a giant creature.
Li Luo’s face was also filled with fear, but once the ant left, she resolutely restarted the vehicle.
The vehicle drove towards the center, with a metal appendage-created mountain visible from afar.
Countless giant abyssal beasts stopped at the mountain’s edge, becoming part of it.
Their enormous bodies represented massive weight.
The ant, having reached the mountain front, struggled to climb only to slide down due to its size.
Its scattered metal appendages rolled down with it, pressing onto its body.
Similar scenes occurred elsewhere on the mountain, with metal appendages wedged into crevices impeding the central ascent.
Their enormous bodies turned into obstacles.
Finding an empty shell of a worm-like abyssal beast, Li Luo managed to drive the vehicle up it.
Bumpy.
The hard inner walls of the metal block caused Mo Ling’s whole body to ache.
Thankfully, it wasn’t long before the vehicle reached the mountain top.
It was a flat-topped mountain, with damaged metal blocks filling the mountain’s gaps, easing the vehicle’s passage.
Vibration sounds constantly came from outside the mountain, yet the hilltop was eerily quiet.
Only a faint rustling sound came from beneath, which upon closer listening was the sound of metal scraping.
Mo Ling saw countless metal web balls squeezing towards the center along the mountain’s crevices.
These rolling balls had discarded their enormous bodies, only to find the gaps narrowing, leading to dead ends.
Instead, they filled the gaps, becoming the mountain’s support.
Li Luo got out of the vehicle and looked inside the mountain through the crevices.
After making records, she slowly moved forward.
The vehicle followed behind, and Mo Ling’s vision arrived at the edge of a red pool.
From afar, the water’s surface looked tranquil, but up close it was a different story.
The flesh slimes had abandoned their metal shells, squeezing through the gaps to reach the center.
The pool seemed like a living organism, constantly writhing and surging.
The slimes’ edges were blurred, intertwined, rising and falling, forming vortices.
Arriving at the poolside, the black horn wrapped in red waves appeared in Mo Ling’s vision.
It wasn’t an illusion; it was pure black!
Mo Ling had never seen such a black object.
Everything black he had seen before always had some reflection, and any stains on it would have color.
But this black horn, surrounded by slimes, seemed to absorb all light.
Marveling at the wonders of the abyss, Mo Ling recalled Li Luo’s earlier intentions.
Braving great danger to come here was to obtain the black horn.
Now that they were close enough, it was time to try retrieving the black horn.
Focusing on the black horn, it suddenly appeared in the metal space.
Instantly, everything quieted down.
As soon as Mo Ling stored the black horn, the vibrations stopped.
What happened?
With his limited vision, Mo Ling didn’t know what was going on.
He only noticed that within his perception range, the deep rumbling vibrations had ceased.
The previously turbulent red pool had suddenly turned into stagnant water.
The flesh slimes halted, seemingly dead.
The constantly rolling metal balls within the appendage mountain lost their momentum and tumbled into deep crevices under gravity.
Li Luo also looked puzzled.
As the black horn disappeared, she had already sat in the vehicle, ready to flee.
The current situation clearly exceeded her expectations.
Mo Ling stared at the black horn lying quietly on the ground, afraid to breathe.
He felt the air suddenly become still.
Fortunately, the girl reacted quickly.
After a brief daze, she drove the vehicle away from the center.
The outskirts of the mountain remained in endless dead silence.
Mo Ling had become accustomed to the constant vibrations; the sudden silence now felt strange.
