Chapter 23 Hidden Changes
Captain Su kept retreating and soon came into Mo Ling’s view.
Through the bandages, Mo Ling saw that the bones inside Captain Su’s body were full of cracks, and the wounds under the bandages went deep into the bones.
This was an injury caused by the bone spurs growing out of his body!
So, the broken bones are breaking his own bones, Mo Ling suddenly realized.
This must also be the effect of some kind of relic, it looks like both the effect and the cost are significant.
Although the cracks and wounds on the bones were healing rapidly, Mo Ling could still see Captain Su gritting his teeth, enduring intense pain.
Two worm-like creatures were chasing closely and also entered Mo Ling’s sight.
Captain Su stood still, seemed to have figured out a strategy. But at that moment, Mo Ling had already aimed at the two worm-like creatures.
Just as one worm was about to retract to launch an attack, a large square hole suddenly appeared beneath it, causing it to fall directly to the ground.
Immediately, countless blood holes continued to appear on its body, the invisible attacks turned it into a honeycomb in an instant.
Not only that, to prevent it from regenerating, these invisible attacks continued to gnaw at the worm’s body, gradually making its already porous body disappear piece by piece.
Finally, this worm was dismembered in the air.
The other worm seemed to lack intelligence, still entangling Captain Su, preparing to launch an attack. But with its companion gone, it stood motionless in place.
Its robust body seemed to deflate, constantly disintegrating from the inside, the spiral panels continuously collapsing, suddenly losing support.
When a gap appeared on the surface of the panel, it became clear that the insides of the worm-like creature had long been emptied by these invisible square holes.
The smooth incision continued to spread, devouring what remained of the worm-like creature’s almost skinless body.
The two terrifying creatures that were just raging like this disappeared.
Captain Su watched the events that happened in the blink of an eye with shock in his eyes.
As he regained his composure, he suddenly realized something and looked towards Li Luo and the cube behind her.
Facing Captain Su’s gaze, Li Luo nodded.
Mo Ling leaned against the cube, eating the food that had been transferred in, while listening to the soldiers thanking Li Luo.
Thinking back to the fierce battle just now, Mo Ling realized that his teleportation speed was getting faster and faster.
“It seems to have become more proficient.”
Using teleportation ability is like learning to grab things with your hands.
If he was like a newborn baby just arriving in this world a while ago, Mo Ling was now a three-year-old child.
He could now subconsciously teleport things in his sight to other places without concentrating too much, which made his teleportation speed very fast.
The flesh of the worm-like creatures that had just been raging was thrown by Mo Ling onto the ground.
“If I can do it faster than the naked eye, can I make a living thing disappear out of thin air?”
Mo Ling was eager to try.
After confirming that the beast tide had ended, the soldiers also approached.
Some even curiously approached the cube, but Li Luo reached out her hand to block them.
A soldier scratched his head, apologized to Li Luo awkwardly, “I’m sorry for blocking you outside the high wall earlier, I apologize to you.”
Then he ran to the side to clean up the battlefield.
Captain Su remained vigilant in place for a while, then walked over towards Li Luo and solemnly reached out his hand towards her.
“Thank you for your help.”
Li Luo also reached out her hand and gave a casual shake.
At this moment, the taxi soldiers at the outpost station officially realized that Li Luo was not just an investigative personnel with no power.
Li Luo also casually asked, “Why wasn’t the information about these biological anomalies reported to the monitoring station?”
Captain Su was startled, “We have reported all these things. We clearly write down what happened at the outpost station every day in the daily report we send to the monitoring station.”
Upon hearing this, Mo Ling was also puzzled.
Stationmaster Liang didn’t mention these things when assigning the task.
Captain Su looked at Li Luo’s puzzled expression and realized something.
“The monitoring station doesn’t know? No wonder, we have been requesting reinforcements recently, but the monitoring station just responds routinely and doesn’t send reinforcements.”
“This is also why the soldiers are feeling resentful.”
Captain Su quickly called the liaison officer, inquired about the communication status during this period, and reconfirmed the issued daily report, everything was normal.
Puzzled, he paced back and forth, then looked at Li Luo and asked, “Does the monitoring station know about the treelike creature? We have also reported this to the monitoring station.”
Li Luo shook her head.
Treelike creature? What kind of creature is that?
Mo Ling thought that the outpost station was hiding something, but he didn’t expect that there was an information gap between the two stations.
Captain Su suddenly remembered something, confirmed with Li Luo, “Is your mission here to investigate the anomalies of the Theseus cells?”
After receiving a positive response, Captain Su made a suggestion:
“You can go to the tribe of the treelike creatures to see what happened there.”
“We’ve been wanting to investigate at the outpost station, but the beast tides have been more and more frequent, and we’ve been too busy.”
“We’ll go back to check why the information didn’t reach the monitoring station and then head over there.”
After that, Captain Su had Li Luo open the electronic screen, and he transmitted the data of the treelike creature to her.
Theseus cell blockade area was surrounded by a huge high wall.
All the creatures in this area were made up of Theseus cells, from trees that were thousands of years old to insects that were commonly seen everywhere, all replaced.
Except for one type of creature—
Treelike creature.
This was a jelly-like gelatinous organism that could communicate with humans simply, possessing a certain level of intelligence, and had its own tribe within the isolation area.
After gaining knowledge of human technology, they found the human beings at the outpost station to exchange fertilizers.
Later, there were even special deliverymen who traveled all the way to the outpost station carrying relics found by their tribe, in exchange for fertilizers.
Upon discovering this, the people at the outpost station were also willing to trade with these friendly creatures.
The reason they were not infected by the Theseus cells was that they appeared out of thin air.
Out of thin air?
Seeing this, Li Luo glanced at Captain Su.
Captain Su explained, “They indeed appeared out of thin air and are not replaced by Theseus cells. We have tested them, and all the treelike creatures are made up of normal cells.”
“We have also carefully examined those treelike creatures that came to trade at the outpost station; otherwise, we wouldn’t trade with them.”
A strange creature, Mo Ling thought.
Why do they need to exchange fertilizers?
Continuing to read on, Mo Ling finally found the answer.
Because this group of creatures, just like their name, the sole purpose of all individuals in the entire tribe is to become a tree.
