Chapter 7: Resonance Beast
Li Luo’s steps stopped before an automatic steamer.
Behind her was a cart carrying an iron block, followed by a fully loaded shopping cart.
The shopping cart was filled with various food items and some outdoor camping equipment.
Mo Ling had grown numb.
Li Luo had bought many expensive relic capsules but was asking the guide if these capsules could be used to store food.
Mo Ling felt worried for the girl’s wallet.
But soon, he was proven wrong when he glanced at Li Luo’s electronic screen while checking out.
The shopping expenses couldn’t even keep up with the number on her account balance that jumped every second.
He couldn’t understand rich people at all!
Poverty had indeed limited Mo Ling’s imagination.
Li Luo then headed to the modification workshop.
When Li Luo emerged from the workshop with the cart, the cart originally loaded with supplies had been transformed into a small combat off-road vehicle.
Thick tracks and strong power carried the iron block as it drove ostentatiously inside the monitoring station.
Behind the iron block was a huge storage box, with a refrigeration function, stuffed with various items.
One look and you could tell she came from a wealthy family.
Under the astonished gazes of everyone, Li Luo walked out of the monitoring station.
In front of the station gate, Li Luo climbed onto the seat in front of the vehicle and charged towards the mission’s designated valley.
There were many hunters on the road, startled by the sudden arrival of the off-road vehicle, staring dumbfounded at Li Luo as she drove away.
Mo Ling was speechless.
He recalled the words Li Luo said to the staff when she first walked into the workshop—
“Can you turn this car into a tank?”
The vehicle’s commotion also attracted many strange creatures’ attacks from the roadside.
But before they could get close, Mo Ling turned them into meat paste.
Even some weaker ones couldn’t keep up with the speed of the off-road vehicle.
Two days later, the two reached the Resonance Beast’s habitat, which would have taken half a month on foot.
A huge valley.
Looking down from the road, they couldn’t see the Resonance Beasts. Tall, dense trees covered the entire valley.
The morning fog enveloped the whole valley, and the rich water vapor floated up, appearing peaceful and serene.
But faintly, you could hear a rumbling sound.
The Resonance Beast, as the name implies, is a creature capable of creating vibrations.
Creatures always have purposes for their actions, whether for survival, mating, or enjoyment.
However, scientists have yet to understand the purpose behind Resonance Beasts’ vibrations.
Some studies even speculate that the Resonance Beasts’ vibrations are forced, as they are even woken up by their companions’ vibrations.
Li Luo was checking the information about the Resonance Beasts on her electronic screen while slowly driving the small vehicle into the valley.
Mo Ling also wanted to see this peculiar creature as soon as possible.
Fortunately, the two of them quickly found one at the bottom of the valley.
At first glance, it looked like a giant mechanical spider with its legs stretched out, composed of metallic parts not typical of any living organism.
But compared to spiders, it only had two mechanical legs that alternately moved through the towering trees.
The slender body blended into the valley’s towering trees.
On its legs was a small spherical metal web encasing a mass of fresh, red flesh, the only visible biological structure.
The fresh red flesh pulsed like a heart, causing the mechanical leg behind it to rotate forward with each beat.
The pointed end of the leg deeply inserted into the ground, with a loud thud transmitted with each beat of the flesh.
It was a perpetual cycle—vibrations continued as long as it moved.
Mo Ling was somewhat shocked looking at this more than two-meter-tall odd creature.
Strange, indescribably strange.
A body structure that defied mechanics, with no apparent purposeful behavior.
Li Luo followed behind, secretly recording the creature with an instrument.
According to records, Resonance Beasts were perceived as having very poor senses, usually wandering aimlessly.
They could only sense vibrations close to them, with a range smaller than Mo Ling’s.
When they sensed an unfamiliar vibration, they would go berserk and attack the source of the vibration, like you waking up at 6:30 AM on a Saturday due to upstairs drilling.
They would even crazily attack their own kind.
Yes, they were absolute solitary creatures, yet they had specific habitats.
The first time Mo Ling read the records, he felt a deep incongruity with these creatures.
What is their purpose of existence?
Mo Ling became entangled in thought.
While observing, the Resonance Beast in front stopped moving suddenly, with the flesh inside the spherical metal web halted.
What happened?
When its mechanical legs started moving again, they turned and directed straight towards Mo Ling and the others.
This was bad.
The flesh suddenly burst with force, beating fiercely as the vibrations quickly accelerated.
The Resonance Beast, defying its usual behavior, sensed the commotion behind them and charged!
Knowing the Resonance Beast’s habits, Li Luo hadn’t kept a great distance, and this sudden situation caught her off guard.
Luckily, Mo Ling’s sight remained locked on the Resonance Beast.
He quickly aimed at the spherical head and severed a large chunk of flesh.
A square-shaped hollow instantly appeared on the Resonance Beast’s originally spherical head.
The pulsing flesh flowed out like jelly through the metal web’s hole, dropping to the ground like a broken egg.
Even after dropping to the ground, it continued to pulse, like a red slime.
The hollow created by Mo Ling extended red tendrils, slowly healing.
The small flesh slime remained relentless, slowly hopping towards Li Luo like a suicide mission.
The mechanical legs collapsed with a thunderous sound without the flesh’s control.
Only the red slime on the ground leapt comically, trying to get close.
Li Luo picked up the instrument, recording this bizarre situation.
Then she found a capsule from behind the small vehicle, encapsulating the flesh slime.
After checking the surroundings, she relaxed and sat back in the front seat.
She took out the electronic screen, transmitted the recorded data to it, and started documenting the anomaly:
“Resonance Beast’s sensing range has increased.”
“Head flesh shows rapid healing abilities after being detached, remaining alive and aggressive.”
……
After recording, Li Luo went to the storage cabinet at the back of the vehicle, taking out a bunch of food and neatly placing it on the metal block.
Then she patted the metal block.
“Good job, eat more.”
Mo Ling was about to pick food when he suddenly realized something was off.
Had he become an electronic pet?
“I do not accept unsolicited food!”
The food was right there at the back of the vehicle; he could get it himself!
However, Mo Ling’s stomach growled again.
After rushing for the past few days, he had finished all the berries and canned food he had earlier, and now the iron block had no more supplies left.
……
“Forget it. Since I’m here, I can’t keep hiding.”
Half of the food on the block instantly disappeared.
