Chapter 5
The next morning.
Dom and I headed to the palace to report a change in building use and the opening of a stationery store.
Dom could not enter the palace with me because he didn’t have a status yet, so he transformed into a sword and was held in my hand.
I rode a rental carriage and arrived in front of the palace, proving my identity and heading to the office in charge of business registration.
After passing through a crowded place and a small path-like garden, I soon arrived at the office.
There were few people, and except for one tall man standing in the distance, it was peaceful.
‘It feels good from the beginning.’
I hummed a monotonous tune as I walked.
But someone blocked my way.
“Long time no see.”
It was none other than Lennox Hessman, the male protagonist and my fiancé.
Of course, I ignored Lennox and tried to pass by. There was no reason to pretend to know him.
The problem was that he publicly called out to me while I was walking on the palace road.
“Lady Meldenique Vaveloa.”
Maybe because it was inside the palace where there weren’t many people, he looked at me with a gentle smile.
‘What? He used to treat me like a useless invisible person.’
I furrowed my brows, remembering his past behavior.
At first, Lennox was warm to Meldenique.
“Lady Meldenique. Good morning.”
Meldenique, who had no one by her side due to the rumors of the curse, easily fell for him.
“Your Grace Hessman, do you not dislike me?”
“Why would I? You are a necessary and useful person to me. Call me Lennox.”
“Yes, Lennox.”
Lennox was her only salvation, despite Meldenique being constantly criticized.
However, as soon as Lennox captivated Meldenique enough, he changed his attitude as if flipping the back of his hand.
“You are not beautiful. So the dress doesn’t suit you.”
He noticed Meldenique’s clothing and makeup,
“You don’t have any talent for business, as everyone knows.”
He ignored Meldenique’s talent.
“Why are you working with Sheria instead of me?”
“Because you are incompetent, and Lady Sheria Vaveloa is talented.”
He compared Meldenique, who felt inferior to Sheria, to the two of them.
When Sheria and Lennox became partners in the ball, Meldenique asked.
“Surely Sheria and you don’t have any relationship, right?”
Lennox’s charm was skillful.
He brainwashed Meldenique, suspecting their affair.
“Listen well. If I were to have an affair with Sheria, it’s because you’re not attractive enough.”
“…It’s not about my attractiveness…”
“Are you trying to contradict me?”
He skillfully manipulated Meldenique in this way.
Meldenique, who was already despised, began to believe in her own foolishness. And she handed over all decision-making power to him.
“Just listen to me. We will definitely get married.”
Meldenique endured all the disregard, contempt, and gaslighting in the name of wanting to marry him.
‘Because Meldenique loved Lennox so much.’
As she reminisced about the past, Lennox’s deep voice echoed in her ears.
I glared at him.
‘Crazy. This is getting on my nerves.’
As I recalled the private scorn, disregard, verbal abuse, and more, anger brewed within me.
The sword in my hand slightly vibrated, as if telling me to calm down.
But I held onto the sword tightly.
Anyway, this man was someone I had to meet at least once.
If he provokes me, I have no reason to stay calm.
“Your Grace Hessman, I see you.”
I made an odd expression as I didn’t address him as Lennox.
I scanned him from his black hair to his brown eyes.
Even though he looked like a knight with a sword, his fair complexion went well with his usual expressionless face.
He definitely had the visual as a male lead. But to me, he was just a cheating man.
As he stared back at me, he calmly asked.
“Meldeinque Yoo, I heard that you came from a noble family.”
“Yes, Your Grace. Since I came from a noble family, I’m just Meldenique now.”
At my answer, he whispered calmly.
“That’s not possible. I didn’t allow it, so what does that mean?”
“……”
“End your recklessness within a month. I don’t like seeing the woman who will be my wife living a debauched life. We have plans for a wedding, don’t we?”
I made a deep impression of disbelief.
‘You want to have a wedding when you’re already having an affair?’
I didn’t expect marriage to be mentioned from this man’s mouth.
My mind was blocked and my anger rose.
At a time when I wasted a hundred billion Vekrell, he was already having a fling with my younger sister, Sheria.
They met each other as if by fate, felt an affinity towards one another, and Lennox expressed interest in Sheria even in the clear situation of having an engagement partner.
‘He always ignored me and took Sheria’s side in public.’
Even now, Lennox was enjoying secretly nurturing his love while making fun of Meldenique and breaking taboos.
‘Thinking no one knew about their affair.’
Now that Sheria was enjoying a vacation in the warm southern holy nation, Lennox must be intensifying his passionate love, feeling her absence.
‘Having an affair with each other while deluding themselves that no one knows.’
Even though Meldenique knew about Sheria’s inferiority complex, she still compared herself to her.
“Ah.”
At my words, Lennox seemed surprised for the first time, with his eyes wide open.
“Oh, I have another alternative for you. How about marrying my sister, Sheria? This way, the strategic marriage between families can be realized. Isn’t it neat?”
Lennox, who rarely showed a surprised expression, opened his mouth.
“I’ve always said that I have no intention of marrying Sheria. She is elegant, beautiful, and lovely unlike you, but…”
‘What? Why are you suddenly praising Sheria and going crazy?’
I looked at him with a gaze of pity.
He seemed to have lost his words, seemingly intoxicated by his dramatic romance. He fidgeted.
“Yes, she is different from you in many ways, but still, I am willing to marry you.”
I couldn’t even figure out where to point out his irrationality.
Getting involved in a love affair while planning to marry someone else?, what is this? They must have had separate brainwaves.
But I had no intention of accommodating his irrational behavior. I would rewrite the end of this novel myself.
“Your Grace, I already knew all along.”
“What do you mean?”
His attitude was nonchalant, but his gaze couldn’t be hidden.
He looked at me as if he were looking at a bug.
‘He must hate me to the point of disgust after hanging onto him and being despised.’
And there was one more person here who was surprised.
‘What is he doing? Mel!’
It was Dominique.
In the original, it was said that they could communicate with each other only in urgent situations, and now Dominique seemed to be in a hurry.
I secretly spoke to Dominique in my mind.
‘Sorry, I’ll give you a bonus.’
Dominique quickly changed his stance.
‘I have to get paid in gold.’
With his permission, I took hold of the hilt of the sword and with all my strength, I stabbed the tip of the sword into the ground.
Bang!
The tip of the sword stuck deep into the ground.
After expressing a short bow to Dominique, I pulled out the sword that I had thrust into the ground and elegantly placed it back into its sheath.
“Then, I’ll take my leave. Since you surely understood my intention, I will soon send a notice of the broken engagement to your place.”
