After finishing the plating, I pushed the appetizing scrambled eggs toward Jaejin.
“Here you go.”
His face, white and pure like that of a big dog, flushed with apparent glee.
It was odd to see Seo Uiwoo, the hero of everyone, the object of awe and adoration, watching intently with eyes seeking evaluation after preparing a dish for Kwon Jaejin.
Who was this Seo Uiwoo before me?
He wasn’t the first S-class esper, the omnipotent Seo Uiwoo unsurpassed by anyone,
nor the crazy son of a bitch who was obsessed with guiding, as Kwon Jaejin knew him,
and even less so the pitiful, pitiable, harsh 24-year-old Seo Uiwoo who clung to him, begging for forgiveness.
“What’s wrong? Try it, Mr. Jaejin.”
“……”
“Don’t like it? Think it tastes bad?… Did I do something wrong?”
“……”
“Not eating it…?”
Jaejin let out a small breath.
He gently shook his head and lightly sprinkled salt and pepper on the steaming scrambled eggs. He picked up a spoon, took a big scoop, and put it in his mouth.
The rich and plain taste of the eggs. The texture smoothly melting on the tip of his tongue. The warmth too was just right. It was delicious.
“The taste… it’s good… Seo Uiwoo, you seem to have talent in cooking…”
Taken aback by the unexpected result, Jaejin unwittingly uttered his sincerity, unlike his usual self, prompting Seo Uiwoo’s eyes to sparkle even more joyfully.
“Really? Should I make more? The second one might taste even better than this.”
“No, this is enough…”
Jaejin picked up his spoon again.
After few mouthfuls, he couldn’t shake off an old habit and extended his spoonful of scrambled eggs toward Seo Uiwoo’s lips.
He was about to feed him when he came to his senses. Blinked his eyes in frustration.
“My mistake. I’m just used to it.”
I know very well you won’t eat it. Tsk.
Awkward, Jaejin tried to retract his arm, but Seo Uiwoo grabbed his wrist, preventing him from putting the spoon away.
“Mr. Jaejin… you’ve always been like this.”
Seo Uiwoo surveyed the snug, plump eggs and Kwon Jaejin with his grey eyes shimmering temptingly.
His gaze was not entirely calm. It was ominously fluctuating.
“You kept trying to feed me. Didn’t you?”
“Well, kind of…”
“Will I eat meals again in the future? Have meals together with Mr. Jaejin…?”
Now such a question was not hard to answer.
Jaejin slowly nodded his head. His wrist was still being grasped.
It looked easy enough to shake off, but he abstained since it would scatter the eggs neatly on the spoon.
“Yes, like how you’ve recently started to sleep well, you will start to eat properly soon.”
“Alright. I’ll eat then.”
Suddenly, Seo Uiwoo leaned forward and opened his mouth.
Without being able to protest, he cleanly ate up the yellow scrambled eggs on the spoon.
He bit, chewed, and swallowed in one smooth motion.
Jaejin, dumbfounded, watched Seo Uiwoo with blank, unfocused black eyes. What the hell is he up to this time? I can’t figure out his psychology.
“Seo Uiwoo, you don’t have to force yourself to eat. You still don’t look like you have much appetite, so why?”
“Hmm… it’s soft. Warm, but there’s a bit of an egg smell. Some parts are burnt.”
“What do you mean…”
“It tastes bad. Mr. Jaejin, did you really enjoy this kind of thing? It’s too poorly made, by me.”
“……”
“I need to practice. I’ll make it tastier next time.”
Seo Uiwoo let go of Jaejin’s wrist.
Jaejin spooned and pondered what this meant, feeling uneasy about Seo Uiwoo’s intent. Though he said it tasted bad, to Jaejin it was sufficiently delicious.
Jaejin silently continued to eat the scrambled eggs until the plate was clean, and Seo Uiwoo intently watched Jaejin eat beside him.
From the tips of his hair to his toes. He watched Jaejin’s lips part every time the spoon went in, observed the muscles in his jaw move as he chewed, saw the angle of his arm lifting when using the spoon, the posture of his hand holding the plate, and even his chest and shoulders rising and falling subtly with each breath.
The gaze pouring out so openly and persistently was far more blatant and relentless than before.
For the first time in a long while, Kwon Jaejin felt the urge to avoid the gaze of Seo Uiwoo. He discreetly retracted his feet and tucked his head, hoping not to be noticed.
Seo Uiwoo was strange.
Certainly, unmistakably, something had profoundly changed.
But why…
Somehow a bit…
‘Maybe this kind of thing and spending time like this, it’s not so bad after all…’
