The Shapeshifter Academy: Chapter 19

It didn’t take even a day for the Student Council Room to be decorated.

[Student Council President, Bendy Reppy]

As I played with the complicated plaque, I straightened my back.

The chair prepared in the president’s seat was very comfortable, but at the moment, it felt like a throne of thorns. That’s because of the situation involving Renne Edent and the Student Council Room.

“U-um, everyone.”

They must be making fun of me for even delaying my mistake. This was definitely the worst first impression.

But what was even worse was the fact that we were the only two left in the Student Council Room.

Bakho Suin.

Just the two of us.

Ugh.

Rubbing my forehead, I nervously searched through the law book.

In the past, before the separation of the merfolk territories…

During the time when different tribes lived together, there were numerous terrible accidents. Accidental hunting of herbivorous merfolk by carnivorous merfolk.

Although merfolk are humans with intelligence, instincts also exist.

Carnivorous merfolk instinctively chased after herbivorous merfolk, and herbivorous merfolk instinctively avoided carnivorous merfolk.

And so, a law was created.

[Continental Law Article 563. The predation between merfolk is prohibited.]

I nervously touched the page where the creepy law was written.

As the conflicts continued, herbivorous and carnivorous merfolk were thoroughly separated, and over time, our generation came to perceive carnivorous merfolk as mere legends.

“Mom, what’s this picture?”

“It seems to be a carnivorous animal…”

“It’s a tiger, a white tiger. But would a carnivorous animal like this look tasty to us?”

“Maybe?”

“What about carnivorous merfolk?”

“Well, I’m not sure…?”

“What do you know, Mom?”

“Hey.”

“Oh, come to think of it…”

Feeling astonished by the mere presence of a carnivorous merfolk I had only imagined, I quietly stared at Renne’s chest.

As if merging with the sofa, Renne had discarded his school tie far away and his appearance was disheveled.

When I slowly raised my gaze from his loose-fitting grey knitwear, my whole body froze. Because our gazes met.

Hastily avoiding his gaze, I buried my head in the law book.

“No matter how you look at it, is it necessary for you to be here in the Student Council Room as well?”

No matter what, Renne was a terrifying carnivorous merfolk.

His lethargic movements were typical of wild animals, and his occasional sharp glances were intense.

The most awkward thing was that, even though he was pretending to be a fox, he couldn’t show any signs of fear.

Lost in my thoughts, I was startled by Renne’s low voice in my ear.

“President.”

Not accustomed to the unfamiliar title, I continued to bury my head in the law book.

“President Bendy.”

“Yes?”

The sarcastic tone made it seem like I was being ordered to disrespect him.

Even if that’s the case, he must be a precious aristocrat in Merfolk Village as the grandson of Headmaster Milane.

Puzzled, I glanced at Renne from the corner of my eye.

“Is disrespecting me… the kind of disrespect I think it is?”

“Does disrespect have another meaning?”

Scratching his chin, Renne seemed to genuinely laugh, as if he had no intentions.

Taking a deep breath, I quickly turned my head. Upon careful consideration, this was a perfect opportunity to serve as a servant to carnivorous merfolk, who once persecuted herbivorous merfolk.

I’ll disrespect him in an extremely arrogant way.

“If that’s the case, then I’ll make sure to speak more comfortably from now on.”

Contrary to my intentions, a high level of politeness slipped out. It seemed that my tongue didn’t want to obey the commands of my brain.

“I have something I want to ask, or rather, something I want to know.”

Feeling self-conscious, I spoke first.

“Why was I chosen to be the student council president?”

Anyway, now that it has come to this, I had to unravel each clue, one by one.

“You still don’t know?”

Wasting time, Renne lazily rolled on the sofa and suddenly straightened his posture.

The Shapeshifter Academy

The Shapeshifter Academy

The Shapeshifter Academy, where only carnivore shapeshifters attend.

If there is only one exception in that place,

“…I don’t taste good.”

It was me, the herbivore deer, Bendy Reppy.

I planned to quietly endure until graduation by hiding the fact that I’m a deer, pretending to be a fox, but.

“This year’s student council president is, Bendy Reppy.”

Ah.

No matter how I see it, I think it’s hopeless to graduate quietly.

Hiding my identity, avoiding the carnivore shapeshifters’ fangs, and even doing the Student Council President’s work, I’m so busy to death, but,

“Now, I think it would be a bit of a bummer if the President dies.”

I ended up getting involved with the fool white tiger, who’s crazy,

“It wasn’t long ago when I act annoyingly, saying that I’ll prey on you.”

The troublemaker wolf who feeds off of his own pride,

“Touch me.”

And even a real lion who abruptly asks me to touch him.

The Shapeshifter Academy in which they say that herbivore shapeshifters can’t survive.

“President, you look exactly like that.”

“….”

“A deer.”

I, surely should be able to graduate without getting caught, right?
