Chapter 10: Should Tuck Our Tails and Behave Like We Should
To eat well, bring money.
Xie Shi stared at Qin Liu Xi’s slender fingers, her face turning red.
Money, where does she have any money?
Even if she did, it would only be a tiny amount. She dare not easily bring it out to make up for the expenses. Otherwise, in the future when she needs some money, she wouldn’t have anything left.
“What money, what money!” She avoided eye contact, stuttering, “You know our family’s situation. Where do I have money?”
Qin Liu Xi laughed, “Oh, it seems Auntie Xie is clear-headed now. You know the situation of the Qin family. I thought you were naturally optimistic and treating it as if nothing happened, living the same high and mighty life as before, surrounded by servants and eating exquisite delicacies!”
These words were like a slap, slapping everyone present in the face, making them sober up.
Indeed, the Qin family now is not the noble family of the third rank officials like before; they are just ordinary commoners who had their house ransacked. They can no longer live the high and mighty life of being served by others all day long and only talking about the new jewelry from which silver building or the new patterns of fabrics from which clothing store. They can no longer eat the extravagant delicacies that make them sick.
All these seemingly extravagant things have all gone far away from them, no longer exist.
Everyone looked at the dishes on the table, their hearts turning cold. They may not even be able to afford these meat dishes now. Their men, who were the main earners of the family, had all been exiled. And these women and children with no skills, who could earn money?
Panic, confusion, once again covered them like a dark cloud, making it hard for them to breathe.
Xie Shi was pushed to the point of embarrassment.
But soon, she frowned. After all, she was an elder; this girl really does not understand respect and courtesy.
Just as she was about to speak, Qin Liu Xi looked at Qin Ming Yue and asked, “Younger sister, have you realized the situation? It’s not wrong to consider yourself a noble young lady, but you also have to consider the circumstances, right?”
Not realizing the situation is a big deal. Look at the sunken corners of Qin Ming Yue’s eyes. According to physiognomy, this indicates unstable emotions and a difficult marriage in the future. This younger cousin has an inconsistent temperament and easily becomes angry or happy. Her future marital fortune is probably not good and her family may not be peaceful.
Qin Ming Yue stiffened, gritted her teeth, her voice slightly trembled, “Even if I am not a noble young lady, big sister is no longer one either.”
They are all Qin family members; they share the same surname. When their family is down and out, she is also the same. She is just a commoner, and moreover, she is just a concubine-born daughter under her stepmother’s name. How can she be more noble than anyone else? Qin Ming Yue thought this way and raised her chest.
“Oh, I’m different from you. I have always regarded myself as an orphan!” Qin Liu Xi casually said.
Qin Ming Yue: “!”
Wang Shi and Aunt Wan: “…”
They were still standing here alive!
Xie Shi, however, seized the opportunity and said, “Look, sister-in-law, this girl is wishing bad luck upon you and your oldest brother!”
Qin Liu Xi snorted coldly.
At such a young age, she was raised in the old house by herself. Now, she wants to come and give her advice on how to raise her? She wanted to see who dared to mention this again!
Wang Shi said, “Second younger sister, Xia Xi is somewhat reasonable in what she said. Our Qin family is no longer the same as before; we must tighten our belts and be frugal. If you really want more dishes, you can take out some private money and have Li Auntie make them for you.”
“What your sister-in-law said is right!”
A weak voice came from the door.
Everyone looked over and saw Qin’s grandmother, supported by Ding Mama, walking in. They all stepped forward to bow in respect.
“Grandmother.”
“Grandmother, please be seated.”
“Mother.” Wang Shi went forward to support her, her tone filled with concern. “Why did you come as well?”
Qin’s grandmother sat in the main seat, looked around, and spoke with a stern expression, “If I didn’t come, then all of you would have forgotten that we are the Qin family who had our estate confiscated by the emperor. We should tuck our tails and behave like we should.”
