I’m trapped in a cube :- Chapter 21: Designated Mission

Chapter 21 Designated Mission

The doubt about the Theseus cells has always lingered in Mo Ling’s mind.

Li Luo was bold enough to start preparing for the next mission.

After resting for a few days, Li Luo replenished her equipment and food, and then came to the mission counter.

She started from the end of the work list as usual, but hadn’t selected a mission yet.

Following Li Luo’s gaze, Mo Ling realized why she was hesitating.

【Collection mission: Water Heart Magma, fifty kilograms, for experimental use, reward 1000 monitoring station points.】

【Collection mission: People-rolling grass, twenty pieces, for research use, reward 2000 monitoring station points.】

【Hunting mission: Hunt a giant jet in the storm belt to the west of the monitoring station, submit image data and the spoils Shining Core, reward 2000 monitoring station points.】

There were no investigation missions, and the remaining missions were all difficult to complete. Li Luo hesitated because she couldn’t find a suitable one.

Looking further up, there were only a few investigation missions left.

Just as Li Luo was about to reluctantly accept a mission as a backup, she received a message.

It was from Stationmaster Liang.

“Li Luo, you haven’t accepted a mission yet, have you? I have something for you to do.”

In the research institute, Stationmaster Liang explained his idea to Li Luo, “The fewer people know about the Theseus cells, the better. You are aware of what has happened before, and there is no one more suitable than you.”

He took out an electronic map and pointed to a marked area, saying, “This area marked with a red line is the blockade zone of the Theseus cells. I need you to go there and take a look.”

“Investigate the blockade area for any omissions or abnormalities. Of course, the most important thing is to explain to the stationed personnel at the outpost about the appearance of the Theseus cells in the outside world.”

Since there is an outpost, why does Li Luo need to investigate? Mo Ling couldn’t help but wonder.

Li Luo also looked puzzled.

Stationmaster Liang saw Li Luo’s confusion and continued, “There hasn’t been any personnel traffic between us and the outpost for a long time. Communication is limited to information transfer, and I suspect that something may have happened over there.”

“I’m not going.” Li Luo said decisively, “I need to accumulate points, I don’t have time.”

After hearing Li Luo’s blunt refusal, Stationmaster Liang was stunned for a moment.

Upon realizing, he reluctantly said, “Let me assign you a designated mission. After you complete it, you will receive points.”

Stationmaster Liang returned to his office, operated on his work station, and then a notification appeared on Li Luo’s electronic screen:

【You have received a designated mission from the Seventh Monitoring Station, issuer: Liang Zhi】

【Investigation mission: Patrol the Theseus cell blockade area, reward 2000 monitoring station points.】

【Accept or Decline? Accept Decline】

“This mission still carries a certain degree of risk. You have enough points now, right? If there are any additional gains, I can apply for more points for you.”

So much? Mo Ling was still shocked by the range of the stationmaster’s permission, while Li Luo had already pressed the accept button.

After obtaining the map and permit from the stationmaster to visit the outpost, Li Luo set off directly.

The journey to the blockade area was not far, but it was very remote and secluded. It took two days of winding roads to reach the designated location.

As they were about to arrive, the sky suddenly darkened.

It’s getting dark?

But the timing seems off. Mo Ling could only sense day and night changes through the light and darkness from inside the block.

He quickly glanced at the time on Li Luo’s electronic screen and found out that it was not evening yet.

Looking at Li Luo, who had slowed down the speed and was looking up at the sky, Mo Ling gradually saw what was ahead clearly.

It was a high wall.

A thick and solid high wall made of reinforced concrete, Mo Ling’s vision couldn’t even cover the top of the wall, and the foundation of the wall was deeply buried underground, being invisible.

It’s this high wall that blocked the light.

As they approached the high wall, Mo Ling could barely see the scene inside the high wall.

The scenery inside was the same as outside the wall, ordinary plants and small insects that Mo Ling couldn’t see anything abnormal in the blockade area.

But the thought that all these plants and animals might be composed of Theseus cells made Mo Ling shudder.

While still focused on studying the world inside the wall, a stern shout interrupted Mo Ling’s observation.

“Who are you!”

A group of soldiers dressed in thick combat suits with various weapons in hand quickly approached the small vehicle and surrounded Li Luo.

“Get out!”

The soldiers were well-trained and quickly searched the small vehicle and Li Luo.

Upon learning that Li Luo was sent by the Seventh Monitoring Station, the soldiers’ expressions turned even worse, complaining.

“We already know the situation sent by the monitoring station, hurry back, there is nothing abnormal here.”

“We will assist in investigating the escape of the Theseus cells. There are no special circumstances inside the blockade area.”

This attitude made Mo Ling suspicious.

Isn’t this a case of the lady doth protest too much?

Li Luo wasn’t a fool, she showed the soldiers the mission and the permit and insisted on entering.

Seeing the name of the issuer on the mission, the inspecting soldiers angrily said, “It’s Liang Zhi again, hiding in the monitoring station every day and still giving us orders, if he has the ability, let him come himself.”

This statement resonated with others.

“Do they want us to take the blame for the leakage of the blockade area? Isn’t this bullying the honest people?”

“Official power can crush people. What’s the use of us working hard here, it’s just a matter of his word?”

“No, I’m not doing it anymore. Guarding in this remote place, guarding against those strange creatures every day, and still being suspected by our own people.”

These soldiers clearly harbored a lot of resentment towards Stationmaster Liang.

“Enough!”

Just as the situation was deadlocked, a hoarse but powerful voice interrupted the soldiers’ complaints.

The soldiers quickly turned around and stood upright, each straightening their bodies.

“Captain Su!”

“Captain Su!”

As the newcomer approached, Mo Ling finally saw what this person looked like.

Frail.

Each of the soldiers was strong, wearing neat uniforms, but this Captain Su looked like a shriveled old man, covered all over with dirty bandages.

The bandages even covered his face, dried black blood seeping out from the bandages, making him look like a decaying mummy.

He walked up to Li Luo, verified her mission and permit again, then turned to the surrounding soldiers and said, “All the procedures are complete, the inspection is over, let the person in, what are you dawdling for!”

The soldiers beside him quickly bowed their heads in apology, their tall figures in front of Captain Su looking like children.

“Let’s go, I’ll take you in.”

Without doing anything else, Captain Su led Li Luo out of the encirclement and walked to the side along the city wall.

The soldiers who were full of complaints just now were now all silent and followed quietly.

Mo Ling looked at the nameplate hanging around Captain Su’s neck and was also surprised by the inscription:

“Level three Hunter, Bone Breaker Su Yang.”
