Chapter 9

Agnes woke up with a start and greeted the crown prince with a nervous expression.

It was rude for him to come so suddenly, even if he was the crown prince.

Even the emperor had never visited the princess’s palace without notice.

It showed how much the crown prince ignored the princess.

“Agnes.”

Damian, who entered alone after leaving the escort knights and servants outside, scanned Agnes with a pressuring gaze.

Damian looked gentle and mild on the outside, a beautiful prince indeed, but in fact he had a very cold-hearted personality.

In other words, he was very different inside and out.

He acted like a warm and understanding crown prince in front of other people, but he was colder than anyone else in front of those who didn’t need his mask.

Agnes was one of those people.

To him, the princess was nothing but a childish and immature younger sister who resembled their mother.

There was no affectionate bond between the siblings.

It was understandable, since she caused trouble every day and tarnished his reputation.

But the reason he came here today was because of the request of the emperor and his father, Alexander.

“Agnes seems to have gone a little crazy. The palace doctor says there’s nothing wrong with her, but she looks strange to me. She accepted the order to join the Black Knight Order… How is that possible without being insane?”

“I think she’s a bit crazy too.”

“Right? Right? She must be bewitched by some strange magic book that’s popular in the social circles these days. She’s been locked up in her room all the time.”

“Is she that crazy?”

“Of course! So Damian, you go and check on her yourself. You’re the only brother she has.”

The emperor Alexander was a very rational person, but there was one exception. He became very blurry in front of his daughter Agnes.

Damian, the crown prince, was bored and annoyed by everything related to his sister, but he was curious too.

‘Did Agnes really accept the order to join the Black Knight Order?’

He thought she might be insane when he heard the news.

Her behavior after that was also suspicious.

She didn’t show her face anywhere in the social circles, even though she was crazy about parties and didn’t care about people’s eyes.

Even when she had done something outrageous in the past, she would show up at the ball the next day with a brazen smile.

She would wear a luxurious dress and everyone would forget her misdeeds as if they never happened.

Agnes didn’t know what shame was.

So he wondered if she was really hooked on some strange magic book as his father said.

And Agnes was alone in her quarters.

She usually brought a lot of maids and played princess, but she was alone today.

“What are you doing here, brother?”

“You’re still rude as ever.”

The crown prince pointed out and Agnes pursed her lips.

The crown prince looked at Agnes’s rebellious purple eyes.

The two siblings had the same eye color.

But Agnes had silver hair that resembled their mother, while Damian had bright blond hair that resembled their father.

Damian spoke harshly as if scolding.

“Agnes. Stop worrying his majesty. You’re not a child anymore. If you keep acting like that, you won’t find a good marriage partner, even if you’re a princess.”

“……”

What? Marriage?

Agnes was surprised by Damian’s nagging.

Damian didn’t care and continued.

“Don’t tarnish the honor of the imperial family anymore. Father may keep looking at you with affection, but I don’t. From now on, you have to perform your duty as a mage of the Black Knight Order.”

“……”

Agnes didn’t answer and just stared blankly.

Damian’s eyes narrowed as he saw her silence.

“Answer.”

“…Yes, brother.”

Agnes reluctantly answered.

To his surprise, she gave a quiet answer.

She was usually defiant and stubborn, but today she was unusually docile.

She was definitely a bit strange.

But it didn’t seem like she was reading some strange magic book. The book on the table was a normal cultural book of the empire.

‘Agnes is reading a book. And a decent one.’

The crown prince looked around the room a few more times and then coughed and left.

Agnes, who was left alone, was speechless.

‘What the hell, that bastard?’

She remembered how rude her brother was, but she didn’t expect him to be such a nag.

‘Are all brothers like that? So rude?’

She was happy to have a family that she didn’t have in her previous life, but she didn’t feel much for her brother.

It would be different if he was a kind brother, but he was such a jerk that she felt like she lost her affection for him.

She wanted to chase him and give him a piece of her mind, but she held back.

Tomorrow was the day she would see her favorite handsome face again.

She didn’t want to ruin her mood by digging up her fated mate.

The next day came.

It was finally the morning of the day she would go to Kailo.

Agnes got up early and wore the black mage uniform that symbolized the Black Knight Order. She stood in front of the mirror.

The knight order was the object of envy for the young people of the empire.

Especially the four knight orders that consisted of young knights.

Of course, the Black Knight Order was not one of them… but the uniform itself was very cool.

The uniform was made of high-quality fabric with magic effects that prevented it from wrinkling, getting wet, or burning.

The chest had a delicate embroidery of the emblem that symbolized the empire, and the design was black with gold accents.

The female uniform had a large and loose ribbon around the neck, and a neat flare dress that reached the knees.

It looked like it made her legs longer when worn with black boots.

The biggest point of the uniform was the cloak.

It had a cape that was cut off at the shoulder and a cloak that extended to the ankle below it, and it looked awesome when it fluttered.

The couple look with Kailo.

She wanted to stand next to Kailo as soon as possible.

‘It’s better than the white uniform, right?’

Agnes’s dressing room had the white knight order uniform, of course.

She would look better in the white uniform because of her bright hair color, but she liked the black one.

Rather, her pale skin and bright hair color stood out more, giving her a cold and formidable impression.

Agnes usually liked to wear fancy hair accessories, but today she braided her hair neatly and let it hang on the side.

She looked at the mirror with a very satisfied expression, and the maids around her looked at each other.

Daisy had something to do today, so only the other maids were there.

‘Should we compliment her for looking good?’

‘If we do, she’ll freak out, right? We’ve been through that for a day or two.’

Emma and Chloe exchanged glances and glanced at Agnes.

Agnes was usually quite generous and kind to her maids.

But she often got angry when she was annoyed, and then she would scold them harshly.

The maids always had to be careful with their words.

“How is it, do I look good?”

Agnes asked Chloe, who was standing next to her.

Chloe was startled by the sudden question. She had to answer well. This was a test.

“Uh, well… that is…”

Chloe didn’t know which answer Agnes wanted.

She couldn’t like the black uniform that symbolized the Black Knight Order.

But saying that it didn’t suit her would also offend her.

Chloe rolled her eyes and asked for help from Emma, but Emma turned her head away as if she didn’t know.

Agnes, who had asked the question without thinking, felt sorry when she saw Chloe sweating.

She didn’t mean to make her uncomfortable…

Agnes gave her a typical answer to free Chloe.

“No, it’s fine. I look good in anything, so there’s no need to ask.”

As she said that, Chloe, who was hesitating, asked in a trembling voice.

“Are you really okay, princess…?”

Her tone was worried, unlike her scared appearance. Agnes answered calmly, pretending to be serious.

“I can’t do whatever I want forever. I have to listen to his majesty and show virtue as a member of the royal family.”

“……”

Chloe and Emma looked at each other with confusion at the unexpected answer.
